Fricke's top 20 shows - I know these things are subjective, and he had some nice choices, but there is a glaring omission - NO '73? ARE YOU KIDDING? BEST YEAR EVER IMO, AND NO KEZAR? NO RFK? NOTHING FROM FALL TOUR? JESUS, MAN!

Sorry, I got a little worked up there.

Pretty spotty list with some great stuff and also some big holes - but that's inevitable.  I was only at one of the shows on his list (Augusta Maine 1984) and while it was a great show, I'm not even sure it was the best one I ever saw.

Tangetial to Fritz' question: For those who don't do bit torrent and all that, has anyone used Hijack Audio to record streaming audio? I'm considering getting it. Any other programs people would recommend?

I was listening to 2.19.85 Kaiser today at work and it opens with Jack Straw. Spirited version and all, but what's up with the "one more time" after "We can share the women we can share the wine..." by Bob (and kind of Brent, too) in the opening and closing of the tune? Anyone notice this before in any other versions? I haven't.

You can get Grateful Dead soundboards by way of bt.etree.org. Of course, you can stream them by way of Archive.org.

Etree Mobile is an excellent app for the iPhone that can be downloaded and used to stream shows from Archive.org.  Archivist is another app that can be used to do the same and actually scans your itunes library but freezes up much too often.

Just listened to this - it is interesting - never heard him do that before. Maybe, Hunter was there an he wanted to fuck with his lyrics yet again - just to piss him off.

Curious what made you pick this show to listen to - overall not very good show. Nice Minglewood, I guess.

Picking shows to listen to out all that is available is daunting task - in 24 years or so listening to tapes, it doesn't seem like a I made a dent, which is good, I guess.

I listen to gdradio.net through my Promethean Board at work whenever the students are out of the room (and sometimes when they're present;)) so I don't get to choose, which is a blessing sometimes. I like that they, save for the re-airing of Gans' show, play complete shows.

Was re-listening to Brent's last "Far From Me" from Tinley Park, IL (7.22.90) a few days before he died. Second round of the chorus he sings "....this song's my last fucking song for you, bitch!" You can almost feel a collective cringe from the other guys on stage.

Hopefully the kids were out of the room for that rendition.

Ha! It was at home last night. I do have to make a quick dash to the volume on the Promethean Board whenever a particular part in Wharf Rat comes on at school, though....

Is it that part about a dime for a cup of coffee? That must sound pretty unrealistic to kids these days...a dime? WTF?

Exactly.  You should hear the stunned and bewildered buzz when I play Midnight Moonlight, too!

And if you have time and space in your head, listen to the next night at Buffalo. Especially the first set. Often overlooked in the shadow of the great Cornell show. Simply the best first set ever to my ears, and that Comes A Time in the second set...
