sumodie
I was next to the foxygen guy getting dragged out through the museum lobby by the frontman and security....he was wasted..ahh, rock and roll. So i tend to believe Tweedy. Apparently the guy dragged out was the tambourine player but he is not an actual member of the band. The band was not 'kicked out' it seems and so Tweedy was merely joking. Foxygen tweeted this last night: "@johndamnseven this is wrong. you should take this off the net. there was no brawl. one member went to the drunk tank. Wilco & foxy are cool"
knotgreen
While I've chimed in sporadically among all of the SSF threads, I'll share just a few of my thoughts:I much prefer waiting in line and having the mad dash to the front VS. setting up a chairFriday night's set was enjoyable, but it didn't do for me what it seemed to have done for most. I'll take a "greatest hits" set VS that covers set more often than not. The novelty of watching Wilco do cover songs wore off about an hour in.I think I finally like Neko Case. Good tunes & stage banter. While I don't think Saturday's Wilco set ranks among one of my favorites, I thought the setlist was pretty killer. One Sunday Morning > Art of Almost! I loved that transition.Sunday felt pretty lackluster to me. I'm not sure if the heat was getting to me or what, but I called it quits pretty early, which is unlike me.Did anyone else think that it was more difficult than it needed to be to find water? The beer was plentiful, but I didn't see any signs for water.Popup "Tag Sale" was great. I got 2 Wilco Mugs, a tshirt, and a keychain from SSF2 for $23All in all, I had a nice time. Here's to hoping for SSF4 next year.

Here's to hoping for SSF4 next year. Sunday was super chill, but my wife and i really enjoyed it. Bloody Marys, no rush, less folks.....guess also because we used the time to really explore the museum and such, see The Loft, and just stroll around without any anticipation of "where to position for wilco set.." Plus, any day that has Autumn Defense is cool for me. Love that stuff especially for a sunday. Mind you, we left early too, essentially right after AD. Neko Case...cool lady, obviously talented. Just not my really my thing - kinda middle road for me. Guess i'd rather have more weird stuff (Foxygen!) or psych rock stuff (white denim!), which they obviously had, but just would love to see more of. More stuff like Here We Go Magic like last time...But yeah, Neko is good for the folks that like the rootsier Americana side of Wilco i guess. Again - she's cool, nothing against her, and she's got an A+ voice.. Plus it's tough for when you're just waiting to get to Wilco at that point (again, that's me speaking, many were probably wicked into her)...I know they've got to balance eveything, and they do actually do a great job of that. I love some (a lot) of Yo La Tengo's studio stuff, but i'd never seen them live. Maybe it's cause we just got there, or i was totally overheated, but i was out of there after like 2 tunes...couldn't hold me.
tinnitus photography
YLT started way too slow....after i got some shots up front I was stymied in finding where my wife was standing in the crowd (did anyone else have problems w/ the wifi and phone connection in general?), so i bailed after they played 3 or 4 snoozers in a row. went to get some food and hung out at the tables, until i heard "Blue Line Swinger" sailing across the air and made my way back to their set. nice way to end it. i loved loved loved the Border Music set (even though i couldn't get my interview w/ Ribot squared away). that was a really strong highpoint of the entire weekend, not just Sunday. tinnitus photography
the water tank / hemisphere installation reminded me vaguely of the YHF cover photo.
worldrecordplayer
Never saw Neko Case before, and I may have liked her in a different setting, but found her to be totally boring on Joe's Field right before Wilco. I don't think that was a good match. Or maybe I just think her music is boring wherever, but I liked the high energy of The Relatives or something to get you going right before Wilco. I haven't mentioned much about the museum, but the Xu Bing installations, Phoenix and the cigarette rug upstairs, were outstanding. And the Loft was real fun, especially the big photo on the end wall that allowed for you to step up and get your picture taken on the keyboards as if you were actually in the Loft. And yeah - the Xu Bing installation was incredible.

The YLT set didn't start slow, but definitely hit a major slow wall after "Autumn Sweater", or maybe the song after that. Some of those songs, like "The Point of It" were nice songs i enjoy, but they strung too many slow ones in a row. The end was killer though.

tinnitus photography
Before you write her off completely - check out the albums Furnace Room Lullaby and Blacklisted. i was gonna suggest Fox Confessor and Middle Cyclone i think she's only gotten better w/ each LP, and her lyrics are really quite special as well. this song nearly always gives me a misty eyehttp://www.metrolyrics.com/this-tornado-loves-you-lyrics-neko-case.html
lost highway
I would say if plain old alt-country is not your thing, then you might be more swayed by Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, or Middle Cyclone. They're a good mix of alt country, chamber pop, rock and roll, lots of imagistic lyrics. Amazing albums all around.

paulcalypse
Setlist I wrote down from YLT: Stupid ThingsStockholm SyndromeAutumnPoint of ItDecora (acoustic)I'll Be AroundBefore We RunNothing to HideOhmBlue Line Swinger - (15min or so) I left during Blue Line because they closed with that in Ann Arbor last time I saw them (amazing show). It did pick up once they played Before We Run. It was definitely the weakest I've seen them of the four times I've seen them. They would have been awesome for a Pop Up show. Hixter
[*]Did anyone else think that it was more difficult than it needed to be to find water? The beer was plentiful, but I didn't see any signs for water. Most (all?) of the food and beer stands sold water for $2. Most of it was boxed(!) but there were also bottles. I also saw festival volunteers hand out free bottles of water to people sitting in the sun on Sunday. And there's always Joe's Hose!
Hixter
Speaking of the boxed water, for all of the environmental concerns addressed by the print on the box, I couldn't help but wonder how they justified putting a plastic spout and cap on the side. Why not just open it like on old school milk carton?

Why not just open it like on old school milk carton? They justified it by selling it for 2 dollars. The cafe conveniently ran out of the one dollar bottled water not even midway through the event but they had plenty of the boxed water on hand for twice as much. Some friend's whose musical views I generally share are very high on her, so I was expecting to be really into her set. I'll give these suggestions a listen. Thanks. Love checking out something new (to me at least) to listen to. Hidalgo fan here - Anyone have more words on his set? Songlist? No words other than "great" "fantastic" etc. Love Hidalgo, love the Lobos. I couldn't come up with a setlist though. One additional comment, David is getting bigger and bigger. Scares me. Yaz Rock
La Pistola y El Corazon was the only Los Lobos tune to appear. I didn't know any other songs, but their set was great!
enocaster
I propose a new rule for SSF4: No chairs or blankets in the front third of Joe's Field.
kwhitehead
I thoroughly enjoyed the YLT set. Loved that it was in the quiet side. They don't do that enough. Much preferable to the usual Ira wankfest (which we got the last half anyway.) And there seemed to be water everywhere. Free water from a hose and the beer people were selling water too. Loneliness Fighter
Throwing my opinions into the ring....The idea of a standing only area up front sounds good to me. Some of us like to have chairs and blanket to set up a base camp in Joe's Field for the day, but when the sun sets it should all be put aside. I thought that Neko Case was perfect. Perhaps not a gripping performance, but her voice just seems so suited to the space. I was watching the sky and scanning the hills and she belonged. The Blisters were great.Foxygen were fantastic, some true laugh out loud moments and sweet time travel music I think that Courtyard D is a prisoner of the heat. Yo La Tengo were trying to bring energy to a crowd that felt that they were melting. 2 hours later, with the shadows longer, Low were just what the Solid Sound doctor ordered. Yaz Rock
Courtyard D needs a sliding roof like the new Miami Marlins stadium has, LOL.
