remphish1
If not then who is? R.E.M. is still my number 1 even though they broke up2 for me is a Wilco and Radiohead tie depends on the day.
rwilson580
Steely Dan has been my favorite band since the mid-70s. I thought they'd finally been surpassed in the 2008-2010 time frame, when Wilco was about all I was listening to. A few years later my Wilco fever has died down a little, and I'd have to say that Steely Dan remains at the top. It's close though. The rest of my all-time top 5 artists would probably have to be Neil Young, Tom Waits and King Crimson.
mountain bed
Nope. Now and forever, The Grateful Dead.

SarahC
Favorite band that I can listen to their records and then go see them play, yes, but my #1 of all time (that I can't go see) is the Beatles.
moxiebean
They're my favorite band that's still actively recording & touring, with Radiohead a close second. They'd probably be somewhere in the bottom half of my top ten all-time favorite bands list, along with The Clash (at #1), REM, Husker Du, Stones, Beatles, Steely Dan, etc.

RainDogToo
Tom Waits has been and will always be my #1! Wilco and Dr. Dog switch places as my favorite bands.
Lammycat
Sorry RainDogToo, Tom Waits is not a band. You'll need to choose a band.
brownie
No. I don't think I have a favorite band any more. My favorite band is whichever one is knocking me out at the moment. And that seems to fluctuate between at least 10 different bands/artists these days, and almost seems to depend on which one I last listened to with any purpose and intensity. Wilco is definitely among my favorites, but I can't pick one. The last time I could zoom in on one favorite was almost 10 years ago.

I saw Deerhunter put on a transcendent show a couple of nights ago - and right now they might just be my favorite band! By next week it could be White Denim. Wilco are always going to be something very special for me - but guess my days of having an enduring favourite band/artist are over.
ripthisjoint908
Wilco, The Beatles, and The Replacements fight for the top spot. Depends on the day.
Kim Bodnia
I have a group of 5-6 favourite bands of which I own most, if not all of the discography -but I don't have one favourite band. Personnel of these bands is interchangeable: the lead guitarist often appears as bassist, second guitarist, or still lead guitarist with all of the other 5 bands (or even appears as producer). Likewise, the drummer has the permanent sit with 3-4 of the bands, tours occasionally with the other 3 or appears as guest in random albums, but it's a core group of people that I follow, perhaps not the bands themselves. Bands are legal entities that remain in service for as long as the business is healthy and profitable, disband when the business model collapses, but people inside the band remain active years later and continue making music. worldrecordplayer
I know it's not my question and I don't get to modify it, but I must. Favorite band currently in existence? Yes, with Phish and the Allmans close behind or just about even. Favorite band ever? Definitely in the top 10 on a list populated by the Dead (definite number 1), Allmans, Hot Tuna, REM, Talking Heads, Clash, Clapton, Beatles, Replacements, Pretenders (that's more than 10 right there). linclink
They are, at least, as favorite a band as I've ever had.Although I tend to list The Beatles as my sentimental faves, I realize there are a good half dozen to dozen bands/artists who've moved me the most. Wilco is way up there, often #1 (if there is such a thing), and of currently active artists the only other one I'm anywhere near as excited about hearing new material from, or seeing live, are Paul Simon & Yo La Tengo. After that I'd say The Flaming Lips, Donna The Buffalo, Paul McCartney & Richard Thompson are probably the other ones I'm most interested in doing great work now. Then there's a logjam of folks whose past work has moved me that much, but that I'm less excited about right now... Mizzy
Wilco is my favorite band to go see. You always know you'll get your money's worth (although now that they've stopped playing Deeper Down there's no guaranteed piss break). They're probably about 7th or 8th to listen to studio albums of.
