  1. And that's why hockey isn't that popular in the US either. (Even though it has plenty of action.) Also, Americans prefer sports where they kick ass. If a US team won the World Cup all the time, soccer would be more popular there. The only sport I've ever been able to get excited about is hockey, but I stopped paying attention after Gretzky went to LA and the NHL changed the names of the conferences and divisions, etc. and tried to court a larger American audience. This is currently one of my favourite TV shows: Hockey: A People's History
  2. This happens in Canada all the time. Everyone plays Toronto (and sometimes Montreal) and forgets about the rest of us. Fortunately, Vancouver is close to Seattle so most bands stop here if they're touring the west coast of the United States. The Maritime Provinces (in the east) are a little more isolated, so they often miss out. Maybe Wilco will add more Australian dates. It seems silly to travel so far and not include places like Perth. I'm crossing my fingers for you, Campaigner, 'cause even tour organisers have got Soul.
  3. The only magazine subscription I've ever had (and still enjoy to this day) is BUST.
  4. Yes, Never Hear The End Of It is excellent! Twice Removed is my sentimental favourite, followed closely by One Chord To Another and Navy Blues. The A-Sides Win comp is great for a beginner, too, but the best place to start is to see them live (if you haven't already). Here are some upcoming dates from their website Jan 15, 2007 Barrie Foundation Jan 16, 2007 Boston, MA Middle East Jan 18, 2007 New York, NY Bowery Ballroom Jan 19, 2007 Buffalo Town Ballroom Jan 20, 2007 Detroit, MI Saint Andrew's Hall Jan 21, 2007 Cleveland, OH Grog Shop Jan 24, 2007 Mount Forest Old Roxy Thea
  5. Covering long distances between venues on the (almost) Trans Canada tour last summer must have been good practice for an Australian tour. Congrats, froggie et al!
  6. Wow, just... wow! Thank for sharing those, Charles. As Wendy said, it's always a treat!
  7. No love for the new Sloan, Sam? I guess, technically, it hasn't been released yet (in the US) on Yep Roc. It's all over the place, but I really love the "Jay songs" and "Fading Into Obscurity."
  8. Congratulations! Oceanbaby may enjoy this ---> zzzzzz
  9. Wishing you many good things today and always. Miss you!
  10. It seems the first lesson a baby will teach you is that your plans are totally meaningless - bwahahaha! I was hoping that my daughter would be born a bit late because we were running behind schedule with our home renovations, but instead she arrived 9 days early. Take that Mom and Dad! Now, almost 2 months later, most of our furniture is still stacked in the living room like it was on the day she was born. D'oh! Best wishes to the Stirratts.
  11. Belated birthday wishes and vibes headed your way from the Great White North.
  12. Wishing you many more adventures in the year to come. Miss you lots!
  13. I ordered mine from Musictoday on Sept 15th and it arrived on Nov 7th. Surely they can do better than that for the extra $ they charged us for international shipping. A friend of mine ordered her copy from Chapters (online) after the release date and it arrived in about a week. (And shipping was free because she ordered a few other items as well.)
  14. The best bud comes from BC anyway. Be kind to your northern neighbours. PS, I am not a fan of NAFTA. If Canada is stupid enough to allow private insurance to cover our public health costs, it could open the floodgates to US insurance companies and we might not be able to stop the full-scale privatization of health care (which has weak protection under NAFTA). ... And don't get me started on softwood lumber. Lou Dobbs is beginning to sound like an American version of Maude Barlow. How weird is that?
  15. 1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on September 25th. 2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I can
  16. My copy finally arrived in the mail on Tuesday. I was lucky enough to see these shows, so it's a nice souvenir. Good to see some familar faces in the crowd too.

That's how I found GloNo. "Another quality music and culture site."
  18. 2000-07-26 The Fabulous Commodore Ballroom Vancouver, BC Unfortunately, no setlist or recording has surfaced. Some idiot in the audience tried to grab Jeff from the edge of the stage during "Misunderstood", so Jeff thanked him "for nothin' at all" by kicking him in the solar plexus. Me = I think they opened with "Airline to Heaven" and I definitely remember the "Immigrant Song" during the encore. I also remember a fun little jam that morphed into "Woman From Tokyo" and/or "Hot Blooded." Awesome show!
  19. I love seeing all these beautiful kids. Great thread! Hannah's getting so strong and wiggly, when I change her it's like trying to put a diaper on a freshly caught salmon or something! I love that the has a expression! He's a present from Hannah's "aunties" in DC, created especially for her. Lucky girl!
  20. Here's a recent picture of Hannah posing with a new friend. I can't believe that she's six weeks old already!
  21. I would seriously consider it if I didn't have newborn to look after. Oh well... in a couple of months she should be a little bit more portable. I need to find a rock tourism nanny!
