  1. We got through the three seasons that are available. Season 3 is good - definitely gets 'darker', though. The character who is always smoking the e-cig always cracks me up - the junkie is an interesting character, too - a different type of junkie role. I would get back on it.
  2. Regarding Spicer - I guess I don't look to Hollywood for normalizing or legitimizing anything. And I am not sure if it did in anyway. My opinion of him hasn't changed. I would not watch a political show, where he is participating as a pundit, because I have no desire to hear what he has to say. But him standing up at a Hollywood TV awards show making a joke about the idiocy and untruthfulness of the whole inaugural crowd count is fine with me - though I totally see and understand where one may disagree. I had to google the after-show pictures -- didn't realize that all happen - it definite
  3. Been enjoying listening to Mike Gordon's latest OGOGO. Very poppy. He is playing a somewhat small club (Metro) in October, anybody ever catch one his solo shows. His band looks pretty great.
  4. Always like the band that he had on the albums and tours during this period. I am rationalizing this purchase, because the I skipped the The Bootleg Series Vol. 12: The Cutting Edge 1965–1966 release. One gets an additional 2 discs (a 1979 show from San Diego) if purchased through the Dylan main site - I went that route.
  5. No it isn't. And who cares if Spicer was on the Emmy's. I didn't seeing it at legitimizing anything. It was a funny bit. Him being laughed at while on the stage was the same as being booed off the stage. That 60 Minute Bannon interview was interesting - I only caught a bit of it - the last 20 minutes that Charlie Rose showed on his PBS show. It's crazy that he was in the White House as an advisor to a President of the U.S. I can see him being a dealer or maybe someone who sneaks a drink into the President, not advice. He just looks like ill. He is great at talking, though. Anyway - with

  7. Actually I never gotten around to read Kot's book on the Staples. I have read his Wilco book and thought it was okay by rock book standards, but that is not saying much. Once, I went to one of his book talk/conversation at local book store, where he talked about his Ripped: How the Wired Generation Revolutionized Music book - the discussion was interesting, but I didn't get through the book. So I guess I am in your boat. However - that said, I still think it's cool for him and the Staples that the Chicago Library picked the book - at least it is locally relevant and I think it is important t
  8. This is pretty cool news for Greg Kot and Mavis. Nice to see the city stepping out a bit and picking this book. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/ct-ae-one-book-0917-story.html Also Kot and Mavis will do a talk at the Harold Washington Library in December. https://chipublib.bibliocommons.com/events/59bc42933e46b1350092125a
  9. Yeah that definitely sucks about the St.Louis show - bunch of wife's friends had tickets. Guess it was a good thing that the Cardinals were up here in Chicago playing this weekend - be curious if they would have canceled the Cardinal game or moved it. Guess MLB canceled a Baltimore O's game when they were playing the White Sox game a few years back under similar circumstances. Guessing the U2 show will not be rescheduled.
  10. We still haven't gotten around to watching Season 2 of Saul. We watched Season 1 and thought it was okay - it never really clicked, though. I am sure we will get to Season 2 one of these days. Been watching Catastrophe on Amazon Prime -- great, funny British sitcom.
  11. Yeah the Joshua show I saw in Chicago this past summer was great - glad we finally gotten around to see them. When it was announced, we thought hard about driving down to St. Louis to catch the Beck/U2 show there , but decided to leave it on a high note. The show is tomorrow and there is still plenty of tickets left - including the $70 GA floor tickets. Of course, it looks like it may get ugly in St. Louis this weekend -- be interesting to see if Bono mentions the latest not-guilty verdict against a police officer who was accused of murder that was announced today...
  12. More so back in the day, but it's always helpful to have a reminder. "Phone my family, tell them I'm lost On the sidewalk And, no, it's not OK… "
  13. Dylan and Staples will be sharing a concert bill on October 27th in Chicago - it'd be nice if Tweedy shows up, too.
  14. Next up for my political mail writing/phone bank group. From the resentful in WI to this. Also finally onto Book 3 of Dos Passos' USA trilogy.
  15. Via Spotify - Listening to the cd 2 of the Life's Rich Pageant - never realized that Bad Day dates back to these sessions. Always enjoyed the tune. The only time I went to Red Rocks was for a REM/Wilco show. Bad Day was one of the highlights. Great night of music -- I think the high was in the 40's that night. 16. He lost the long beard, I see.
  17. That's the first one I threw on today, too.
  18. Steely Dan is on those bands that I have been listening to since high school --- the majority of my friends goofed on me for enjoying them. My wife can't stand them, either. Definitely a unique sound -- the music is so great, though.
  19. They announce this over a month ago -- i am guess the sales must be sluggish - I just got the " RFK STADIUM 1989 BOX BREAKING NEWS" email too. I did see the 7/12/89 show when in played in theaters last month - it was a fun show, but I will skip this one. Probably would spring for it if they included DVD's of both the shows - esp. at that price point. Also part of the email was about who bought Garcia's Wolf http://www.dead.net/features/interviews/all-family-brian-halligan?cmpid=dn/2017September1/AllInFamilyBria-ReadItHere-main-more-4&eml=2017September1/4095617/6131962&etsubid=39846
  20. Rather long piece from Stereogum - even starts off with a Wilco reference (I haven't read through the whole piece, yet). I enjoy the latest one, thus far, after two listens. http://www.stereogum.com/1958113/premature-evaluation-the-war-on-drugs-a-deeper-understanding/franchises/premature-evaluation/
  21. I agree - probably will pass on seeing them due to the venue.
  22. We came down Saturday - more than usual traffic, but it wasn't too bad (we make this trip around 8-10 times a year - my in-laws are from down here.) We are heading up tomorrow. We went up to my wife's family church, which is out in the country and on top of a hill. There were about 4 other groups of people there. The locals are definitely taking advantage of the event, selling shirts and such.
