  2. I'm not sure what'd I'd call GnR, but that album really is solid. chinese democracy on the other hand...who's funding that album still????
  3. congrats Lou! it's amazing how bad an unpleasant work environment can be and an even more amazing experience once you've gotten out of one and are able to put it all behind you. best of luck!
  4. i think Poison's trying to keep up with Def Leppard. Def Leppard released an album last year of nothing but covers then did a tour with Journey to promote it. At least the difference between Poison and Def Leppard is that Poison's not shy about the whole "we're just out here to make money" bit, where Joe Elliott insists that his band is still growing artistically and is as relevant as ever. although, i was a little confused when i saw that the poison album was coming out. i have to confess, last summer i did what i called the "headbangingheavymetal summer" (can i claim copyright on that catc
  5. smart very smart! although i have to admit, the days where i sit at my desk and spend 8 hours working on drawings are pretty great. those are the moments when i chuckle to myself and think "wow, i'm getting paid to do this".
  6. i do design work for museums, non-profits, and artists. i did do a couple "tours of duty" for a government agency in the career, but really love the museum work, that's where i'm at now. was curious because i've always found it helpful to pester other designers for fonts, tips and tricks, computer issues, and all that other fun stuff that comes up and you're sure someone out there has the answer.
  7. having just left that godforsaken place (TN, sorry to those that live there and love it, it just wasn't my bag), i had to check into this one, and it appears to be true: http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/about/regions.html memphis is at the bottom left-hand corner of the state, and the north eastern tip of the state stretches pretty far east, no wonder it took me 6 hours to get drive out of the state. thanks! I'll check that out, sounds like something i would really enjoy. will definitely add this to my reading list.
  8. they also go through three sets of teeth in a lifetime, the last set comes in around age 25 and has to last the second half of their life which consists of eating upto 750lbs of food a day.
  9. thanks for posting this. have only had a chance to watch a brief bit of it, but will definitely go back and watch it all. i'm almost as big a Mac fan as i am a wilco fan.

  11. "disposable dixie cup drinker..." love love love that one. and of the live stuff i have "I have no idea how this happened..." from one of the solo shows.
  12. I think you're right and that it was John Mellencamp that said that, during an interview on All Things Considered on NPR. His song is now the official song for Chevy and apparently helped his album sales immensely compared to trying for radio play.
  13. huh, very good question. i've worked in museums for years, and that is quite the, how does one do that. maybe they got their hands on the original lead type (how amazing would that be to see). it probably wasn't nearly as glamorous. more like they paid the foundry a lot of money and found all sorts of stuff that used helvetica and called it part of the permanent collection. i personally favor helvetica neue, although for one exhibition i recently designed, i got to make giant 3' tall x 2' deep helvetica letters. maybe i should see if MoMA wants them for their collection. a side note: a
  14. wow, I take a week to move and look what I miss. Thanks for posting the blog Sue. anyone remember when Bob Dylan was in a Victoria's Secret Commercial with his song "Love Sick" ??? i think someone asked or made mention that vw=ok viagra=not okay and questioned the difference. quality of design. vw puts a lot of thought and "art" into their commercials, if they didn't we wouldn't be able to mention the "pink moon" commercial (or remember that synchronicity commercial). you could even go onto their website and find out more about the bands that made the music for the commercials. that's
  15. these look cozy! glad i stumbled onto this thread. might have to get one from ebay myself.
  16. CBS sunday morning is doing a segment on summer music with brief overviews/reviews of albums that just came out/slated to come out this summer. the reviewer said the album he would be listening to the most this summer is Sky Blue Sky.
