  1. Seconded for Deerhoof. They'd be a perfect addition to the lineup. I think--but am not sure--that both Jeff and Nels have mentioned being fans also.
  2. Wasn't it unreal? And yes, all 6 nights will be roadcases. You can preorder now. A total steal at $9 a show.
  3. Ditto to absolutely everything Raspberry Jam wrote. I now have the recent memory of 3 big festivals last year: Newport Folk, Lockn' and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. To say there's literally no comparison is a huge understatement. Solid Sound feels like the kind of festival that Wilco would organize.
  4. I said something similar in a conversation with friends yesterday. I think Wilco fans would pay more for the festival and it might yield as much or more revenue with less crowding. This festival is the best bargain going. Not only the music but also the amazing museum.
  5. I just tried to request it but it's not on the dropdown menu. Maybe flood their FB page with requests? I'd really like to hear that too!
  6. Thanks for doing that. I'm hoping for a repeat in Chicago!
  7. Susie is a muse, a mama, a badass and a warrior. I always look forward to seeing her shining face or just feeling her presence when I'm in Chicago to see "our boys." Rest up and get better soon. We ALL need you!
  8. Are we sure it's audio only? I mean, that's still cool, but it would be fun if I could tell my real life friends to tune in and watch me make an idiot of myself.
  9. Oh, I'm so sorry. Even when you know it's coming, it's still heartbreaking to have to say goodbye.
  10. Yes! Let's get the weatherman with the "supplemental hair" to weigh in on this! Seriously, I couldn't be more thrilled with this weather forecast. After a couple of years of freezing my ass off in front of the Vic for hours on end, this is going to be a virtual stroll on the beach. :-)
  11. I noticed that. Let's give thanks to the weather gods!
  12. The director, Gorman Bechard, is a big Wilco fan and an even bigger Replacements and Husker Du fan. He's been to every Solid Sound.
  13. Tired? Hah! I laugh at tired! Yeah, maybe, but really how grueling is it to go to a great show every night? My days are free and I won't have to get up early. I'll be living like a rockstar--wake up call at 2:00 or so. :-)
  14. They're a matched set. You really need all three. Come on, it'll be the best $27 you ever spent.
  15. Any suggestions as to the best way to figure out what is happening in Chicago in a couple of weeks? I will be there for all of the Winterlude shows + Nick Lowe on Dec. 7 and have just one night free: Wednesday, Dec. 10. I'm thinking maybe a comedy show (if there's something good), a play, or something else non-musical. I did see that Justin Townes Earle is at Space in Evanston but I've seen him several times before and might need to give my ears a break for one night. I've looked on Pollstar and Chicagoist and Chicago Reader websites. Chicago Reader seems to have the best listings of upcomi
  16. In interviews and in his own writings, Nels comes across as insightful, hip and articulate. I remember one long video where he discussed all his gear for almost an hour and it seemed like he could have gone on forever. It was all guitar geek stuff but his obvious passion and enthusiasm made it very engaging even for a non-technical person like me. I would love an intimate show like this with Nels.
  17. That must have been a show of marathon length. Was it great? And how did you hold up?
  18. Linclink, you are missing out if you're not the West Coast Publicity Man or whatever. I hope whatever they do in Chicago is exactly what they want to do. I completely trust their instincts and integrity and value that so much more than seeing a statistical analysis of setlist variety. I'm always amazed at how many different ways there are to appreciate music.
  19. I've never been that big a Dead fan, but it sounds like the theater in Port Chester was known for a special connection to the Dead--I think they played there a lot. So in that context ending with Ripple seemed like a fitting tribute.
  20. You are welcome. What I lack in technical knowledge I make up for in enthusiasm, right?
  21. Has anyone who placed an order with Collector's Choice Music for the vinyl gotten their copy yet? They had a good price on it and I preordered but I checked the status yesterday and it still hadn't shipped. I called Customer Service today and was told that the vinyl is still on backorder and no copies have shipped yet. I canceled my order, which they gave me no hassle about. I still would like to have the vinyl, even though I already have the CD version. Any idea who's offering the best price on this now?
  22. Wow, that is some contrast. Different reviewers, I guess, as well as likely an emphasis on the tabloid aspects of Jeff's personal life with the original review.
  23. Sam Amidon is a really interesting performer. I saw his set at Solid Sound. He's married to Beth Orton.
  24. Nels is not only an expressive musician, he's also a very expressive writer. The two essays he contributed to the booklet are just great.
