  1. i've been playing so much guitar hero that my middle fingertip is numb.
  2. well to be fair to Mogwai, they are releasing a regular version of the LP that's not nearly as expensive (ie, see below). and it's an import. it's not like Neil Young's new LP (single LP, at that) having a retail price of $35 or so. that's just silly. i'm assuming that's for the regular edition LP, not the box set.
  3. i was interested in buying the new Mogwai in the limited boxset format, but the UK post is seriously crazy...23 sterling = $35 US...fuck me.
  4. damn, would love to see Chris and Ed play! thanks for all the kind words, people. Auctioneer, I'll check for that band, thanks for the heads up. i did a phone interview w/ Steve earlier this year: http://www.bigtakeover.com/interviews/interview-with-steve-diggle-of-the-buzzcocks-part-one http://www.bigtakeover.com/interviews/interview-with-steve-diggle-of-the-buzzcocks-part-two
  5. I spent a fair bit of time last night and today going through all the shows I've seen this year (about 240 or so total performances), and came up w/ my top 22 and honorable mentions...click on the pic to see more
  6. seeing Bert is always a joy http://www.prefixmag.com/photos/bert-jansch-pegi-young-and-the-survivors-johnny-ds/
  7. The Rock Curse is when a newer/deluxe edition or box set comes out, and you've already got an earlier version...record companies do this all the time, and I have definitely overlapped a lot of purchases (Pavement, Elvis Costello, The Stooges, Wilco, etc).
  8. most of the stuff i am interested in are smaller pressing size things...take a look at the mail order operations of Forced Exposure, All That Is Heavy, Volcanic Tongue, Time-Lag, Eclipse, Fusetron, Aquarius, etc...that's where I get a lot of my music from, and the artists just can't sell a record for $10 if the pressing size is 500-1000...the economics just aren't there. $10 LPs are certainly way out of the norm for the stuff I browse. audiophile pressing or not. somehow I doubt your sincerity. on another board, we refer to this insanity as The Rock Curse.
  9. 140g vinyl pressing of previously-released material...the Wilco is a better deal. i wish LPs were priced at $10 a pop, but they aren't. so getting a 25% discount is pretty nice. CDs are generally worthless, and the only time I buy CDs these days are if I can't find the LP/wasn't pressed on vinyl, or if i find a good price on a used copy.
  10. find another 4LP box that's cheaper. btw, they also had the Neu! box set....4LP+12" and a 36 page book...that was listed for $250.
  11. yep. that one. was waiting for the pressing issue to be resolved. btw, my avatar is youngest son...i'm not nearly as blond. or young.
  12. not sure if this is in-store only and not web sales...i went to the Harvard Sq location today.
  13. you could land Kicking Television for $45... I got a bunch of stuff today for $130..DBT's new one for $16, among others.
  14. we're talking about a gay guy fronting a metal band here.
  15. those are great, as is Stained Class. they definitely cheesed out a bit, but the dual attack of Tipton and Downing is pretty good. they are a band i only really started listening to in the last couple of years.
  16. i caught the _British Steel_ tour and enjoyed it, and their _Nostradamus_ record of a couple years back was quite excellent.
  17. Bill Callahan would be a great choice. So would Sonic Youth, and they are pretty close by. I don't really have any strong feelings, though...I think that Wilco had an excellent variety of performers, and I think they can easily duplicate the breadth of last year's lineup.
