I am old. Most of my pre-internet music discoveries were from hearing bands on college radio stations, reading about them in music magazines, and by word of mouth. Initially (1990’s-2000’s), the internet gave me more exposure to word of mouth via message boards very much like this one, but music magazines and in-store listening kiosks also helped greatly. The last ten years have become information overload. There are no more music stores, but with all of youtube and spotify, there is endless choice and so I find I listen to less new music because it is simply overwhelming and there aren’

Thanks chuckrh. It’s nice to hear the perspective of someone who is a fan of all three acts (Finn, FM, Petty). I am one of the biggest Neil Finn fans on the planet, but am having a very hard time coming to terms with his joining this band. I was a big FM/Stevie fan 35 - 40 years ago, but over the years came to focus mainly on Lindsey’s solo work, so that contributes to my struggle with the current situation. It sounds like a good night of music. . Not sure I want to blow $200+ on it though.

She’ll be fine. She has survived much worse than this.

I think it’s pretty clear that Joey has been going for the brass ring. Ironically, I think he would be held in higher esteem in the music industry if he had stayed the course and stuck to what he’s really good at. Joey is a great soundscape artist, and many of the recordings he has had a hand in are among my favorite things in the world. But a world class songwriter/hitmaker, not so much.

OMG what an amazing song. I have seen Calexico many times, but never got to see them play this. I have a live recording that even blows this recording out of the water. Whatever happened to that Calexico? sad face.

Sounds fantastic! I love the Feelies. I can probably guess what some of those covers were based on songs they’ve recorded over the years (Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey or The Inner Light, Paint it Black, Dancing Barefoot). What Neil Young song did they do?

It’s not live, but this afternoon I’m going to the Velvet Underground Experience exhibit in NYC. http://velvetunderground-experience.com I honestly have no idea what to expect. But I love this band, so it should be worthwhile.

As a Calexico fan who started with The Black Light back when it was released, I am very interested to hear the thoughts of someone who discovered the band with the Thread That Keeps Us. They are a completely different band now, so I am truly curious to hear your thoughts on the old stuff.

Giants lost a heartbreaker today. Who would have ever predicted a 63 yard field goal clearing the goal posts with 1 second left in the game?

No, I don’t. But I thought your initial post was questioning having a calendar at all, even a current one. The only time I ever saved calendars was for a few years in the 90’s when I knew I wanted to harvest some of the artwork for framing. I eventually did that, and those calendars are long gone. I don’t think I ever looked at what was written on them the entire time I had them once a new year started. Every Jan 1, the old calendar goes into recycle and the new one goes up on the wall.
-
Oh come on, in 1982, if you had a life to keep track of, you had a calendar. Don’t you have an electronic calendar? I actually do still have a kitchen wall calendar that duplicates my electronic calendar, mainly because I like the monthly change of artwork!
-
So did I!! Why did he save his calendars? I didn't watch much of the hearing and only heard on the news that he had 35-year-old calendars. Who saves their calendars??

Sad to hear this. . I have always loved Marty’s voice.

What a beautiful room, and a beautiful collection! Hope you have some comfy seating at the end of the room we can’t see?

Holy cow, I did not know this collaboration existed until just this minute when I had to answer my question “Who the heck is Arthur Buck?” Two of my favorite artists and I did not know! I obviously live in a cave!

Neko Case tomorrow night.

Now watching Paul McCartney streaming live from Grand Central Station!

I go back to work tomorrow (teaching) after a long summer break, so I honestly can’t complain that I spent half the day working. I’ve been spending the rest of the day relaxing and watching baseball!

I loved BlackkKlansman and look forward to seeing Juliet, Naked when it makes its way to a local theater. I did not read the book (did not even know it existed), but felt the character of Rob in High Fidelity was me! I saw Searching the other day and really enjoyed that. It has a very interesting point of view - 100% of the movie takes place on a computer or cell phone screen. I thought it would be awkward but it was fascinating.

My new favorite album!

I got that screen on my iPad briefly the other day, I assumed it was when the site was moving to a new server? But I came back later and everything was, and has been, normal. Perhaps it’s a cookie issue? Although I did nothing to my cookies to get rid of that screen - it was just gone next time I came here. Sorry I can’t be helpful!

Holy cow Craig, I’m so sorry!
