Might be my favorite REM album, front-to-back.

I saw it a few months ago and it met my (very high) expectations.

Nice interview with Peter Buck here: https://www.salon.com/2017/11/03/peter-buck-of-r-e-m-how-many-people-write-songs-when-theyre-70-i-want-to-be-one-of-them/ You produced Uncle Tupelo ["March 16-20, 1992"] right before demoing for "Automatic" started. Did that have any bearing, from your perspective, on how you approached things? I think it probably did. I went to see the Uncle Tupelo guys — I think their second record wasn't out yet. There were like 30 people there. And the first song they opened with was that Louvin Brothers song "Atomic Power." I wandered up and said, "Hey, loved the set

That was the first tape I ever got. Love the Fire on the Mountain, vocal flubs and all.

Still thinking about their great show the other night.

A bunch of years ago I went to see Steve Earle with a co-worker who was somewhat conservative but claimed to be a big Earle fan. When Earle started in on his politic banter (as he is wont to do) my co-worker got offended and turned his back to the stage. He said that if we hadn't driven together, he would have left. He apparently liked the music but never listened to the lyrics.

Nice. Bummed that I'm going to miss their show in Boston in a couple of weeks.

We've been powering through The Fall - which I think is pretty good.

Below is what Bob wrote on Facebook: It was the Fall of 1978. I was attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. One block from my dormitory was a tiny store called Cheapo Records. There was a PA system set up near the front door blaring punk rock. I went inside and ended up hanging out with the only person in the shop. His name was Grant Hart. The next nine years of my life was spent side-by-side with Grant. We made amazing music together. We (almost) always agreed on how to present our collective work to the world. When we fought about the details, it was because we both cared. T

I'm sure I've told this story here before but the last time I saw Grant was an interesting night. He was playing a venue in Somerville (Mass.) that doesn't have many shows. We got there early because we couldn't get advance tickets. Grant was hanging out front so my friend and I chatted with him for a while and then we all went backstage and hung out with him in his dressing room until the show began. He was funny and interesting and engaged. And the show itself was cool. There were only about 25 or 30 people there (which was a little sad) and we all were in a semi-circle around the sta

Sad, sad news. Grant Hart lost his battle with cancer. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/7964914/husker-du-drummer-grant-hart-obit

Show was great. They did a first set that was a mix of old stuff, some "hits," and some new, yet-to-be-released stuff and then the second set was Let Me Come Over in its entirety. I don't think I've ever see them do a bad show.

What a strange late season in MLB. The Dodgers - who looked like they were running away with everything in August - now can't win a game and the Indians may actually never lose again. 20 wins in a row is pretty unbelievable.
