  1. It's funny - I got home last night and one of my neighbors had dropped off a whole pile of music magazines. There was a copy of MOJO that Tom Waits had edited. In it Waits lists his favorite books, and the first one on the list was Pancake's.
  2. I like it. I had read some of the stories about 20 years ago, then lost the book, but picked up another copy recently. He's definitely a talented writer. Are you a fan?
  3. Been reading short stories recently, including:
  4. Just went out to lunch in Harvard Square and A Ghost is Born was playing. I came in during Muzzle of Bees and heard the rest. The bartender gave Less Than You Think about five minutes before skipping to Late Greats.
  5. Mangum tickets on ebay for $5,600. (Via Stereogum)
  6. Lengthy - and I thought pretty good - article in today's New York Times Magazine.
  7. Pretty sad article about Bill Haley on this exact topic.
  8. Dice-K's checkered career with the Red Sox might be over.
  9. There was a really good - and somewhat sad - profile of him in The New Yorker last year.
  10. Exactly! And I assume his response is "hey man, I'm just waiting for my Blimpie sub ..."
  11. And they should be pissed. Neely in his prime was awfully good.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZmEJ3mLPs0&feature=player_embedded That save by Tim Thomas last night was pretty crazy good ...
  13. According to this story it is 6:00 PM in each time zone. On May 21, "starting in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone, there will be a great earthquake, such as has never been in the history of the Earth," he says.
  14. Yeah, apparently it's fake though. Rumor is that it's part of some Gillette "close shave" ad campaign.
  15. Pretty good documentary about a pretty interesting couple. On a pretty meager income they become important - and obsessive - art collectors.
  16. Saw the Feelies Saturday night in Cambridge. As always, they put on a tremendous show. Two hours of music, with a nice mix of old and new. While I like (but don't love) the new album, the stuff they played from it sounded great. The first encore was the Stones' Rocks Off followed by REM's Boxcars.
  17. I know this is derailing this thread, but speaking of crazy sports fan and Larry Bird, here is a story about a criminal who, at his sentencing, asked for a 33-year sentence instead of 30 because he wanted to honor Larry Bird, who wore No. 33.
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMujgAAyH-I&feature=related Nice catch ...
  19. I took to be that Phil Esposito is still held in very high regard by many Bruins fans. He was a little before my time but as a kid I remember seeing bumper stickers around Boston saying "Jesus saves, Esposito scores on the rebound."
