I like her Will Oldham cover quite a bit. She used to play here in Dallas fairly often but not so much anymore.

I do not get that Dead Confederate band AT ALL. I read a lot of comparisons to MMJ, but I hear a lot of Seven Mary Three.
-
Easily top 3 for me. The duets with Ashley Webber are amazing.
-
Ditto. I took my mom to that show, though, and she totally bought their record.
-
I agree wholeheartedly, except for the fact that I even think Person Pitch is overrated save for 3 or 4 exceptional songs.

Neon Bible is the best Springsteen record since Darkness on the Edge of Town.

A friend of mine knew I loved Ladyhawk and then downloaded the Ladyhawke album on-line in a much similar fashion. He then made fun of me for liking Ladyhawk for a week or so before I hipped him to the error of his ways.

Matthew and the Arrogant Sea Family, Family, Family Meets the Magic Christian. These guys are from my neck of the woods. I bet a lot of people on here would dig it.

Love this record. "The Future" kills me everytime.
-
Really? I think Neon Bible's a better record than Funeral hands down.

The Dallas show was two sets with a 15 minute intermission and a 2 song encore. They played stuff from Distortion, 69 Love Songs, i, the Gothic Archies' Lemony Snicket albums, the 6ths' albums and even Stephin's Chinese opera. In short, amazing.

How about Rick Danko?

Since we've resurrected this thread... I'll add "Well Fuck You Then" by Dark Meat.

That speech was nothing short of appalling. I could give you a grocery list of things I disagree with Republicans about, but the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach stems mainly from one thing--Sarah Palin and her cohorts putting down Obama's work as a community organizer. Obama and Biden have never belittled McCain's service to his country; in fact, they have publicly praised it, despite their disagreements. When will Republicans understand that serving one's country does not necessarily mean strapping on a gun and marching off to war?

Totally not the same. If that's true than the Eagles are alt-country. And I hate the fuckin' Eagles.

zz top, rick rubin and the black keys
DrNo replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Um, how? I'm not the biggest Rubin fan but his work with Cash not only reinvigorated the Man in Black but helped him produce some of the best work of his career. -
Oh yeah--I almost forgot. I've walked out of two Wilco shows, I think. One was on the Being There tour (I was 15 or 16 and my girlfriend's dad had been waiting outside the venue for an hour to pick us up) and the other was the last time they rolled through Dallas, when I left early to catch the Bowerbirds at the club upstairs. I know I walked out of at least one marathon Jayhawks show, too. I also left an oversold Devendra Banhart show because A) I couldn't hear the band and two little indie rock dudes got in a bloody fight and ruined the vibe. It was my freak folk Altamont.

I nearly left My Morning Jacket's Saturday show in Dallas because some of the main set was kind of boring ("Touch Me, I'm Going To Sleep"). We decided to see at least one song of the encore, though, and when the first song turned out to be their cover of "Tyrone", I was glad we did. Then Erykah Badu came out and joined them for the second verse. Good times. The encore was worlds better than the main set. No band needs to play for two hours and 45 minutes.

Norm MacDonald's brilliant appearance at Bob Saget's roast
DrNo replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I love Norm MacDonald, but I can't justify elevating this set to the level of Andy Kaufman-esque genius. He just told a bunch of corny old jokes from 60s roasts... It was ballsy, sure, but I definitely wasn't rolling on the floor or anything. Personally, I like the old lady vagina jokes. And dead baby jokes. Those are the best. -
Catherine Irwin (the brunette in Freakwater) wrote "Hex". Most of you probably know the Neko Case version. It's incredible. For that reason alone, she can do no wrong. I don't have a major problem with texting at shows as long as the texter isn't right up front, but come on, show some respect. She wrote "Hex," people. It's the "He Stopped Loving Her Today" of the 00s.

I am ready to go off Bela Karolyi style about how much I hate these kids.
-
Amen, dude.

I'm glad there are others like me. It's probably one of my top ten albums of all time. Anyone who digs Springsteen's Nebraska should definitely pick it up.

I'm not the biggest fan of either of their new albums, but this will still be pretty cool. http://remhq.com/news_story.php?id=868
