SarahC
No, Tweedy wasn't quite a half-step off. It wasn't a whole half-step flat, just always slightly flat. Hence, quarter-tone. Quarter-tone is a legitimate musical term, if that's your question. It's half of a half step (obviously).thanks for clearing that up. learn something new everyday i guess. Reagent
Sky Blue Sky sounds kind of like Far Far Away because the first few notes of the riff in SBS are the same as the beginning of the solo in Far Far Away. Other than that the songs are quite different. *shrug*
lordgoat
My two cents: I've only listened to it a few times, i like it, it hasn't grabbed me the same way AGIB did but that album really suited me when it came out. I love it. Sky Blue Sky has a different pace to it. It's not as edgy or aggressive. It's a turn of direction once more which impresses me most about Wilco. I love how they always try and progress and not stagnate. As people have pointed out there is an old rock feel to it ala the band but i think thats a good time. I like Nels guitar alot, simply as it shakes things up, people say it's a little over the top. If it wasn't i think the album at times would fade into obscurity and just not have the same punch. I often find the little things that are slightly out are the things i enjoy most after a few weeks. Here's a quote/paraphrase some will recognise. You have to sit with it for a while. Glenn's Stick Bag
I too would welcome the chance to hear this - been away from the pc for a few days with the 'flu - proper 'flu, not man 'flu, and hopefully not bird 'flu. My apostrophe use alone is surely worth someone sending me a link to hear SBS?! Thanks in anticipation...
a.miller
Sky Blue Sky (the song) = Far Far Away Anyone else hearing this?Yes. And maybe a little bit of When the Roses Bloom Again
brgriffi
Overall, the album is good. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, but its enjoyable. Very, very laid back. The guitar work in Wilco is definitely taking a different direction, and I'm liking what I hear.
coast to coast
Its a good album and Wilco are still a phenomenal band, and to be quite honest, its a step that isn't entirely unexpected - that is, to make quite a "straight" record. Its very relaxed and based solely around the 6 guys playing through the songs. I was shocked by A Ghost Is Born went so mad at times, and love love loved it. In retrospect its such a logical step on from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, in the same way as Wish You Were Here follows from Dark Side Of The Moon (I'm sure someone here will hate that reference! but its what I always use when thinking of bands with consecutive classics) but this album sounds after the first few listens like a bit of a Get Back! style project. Personally some of the arrangements aren't exactly my cup of tea and there's something not as magic as it about the last two records, but I'm sure I'll enjoy plonking the disc in my machine and cranking it up, cos there are some tasty tracks on it alright! Sir Stewart
A lot of this album reminds me of a lot of great musicians.

darkstar
I've gone through SBS twice now and in that brief span I gotta say this is one damn fine album. The music and lyrics are just hitting me right. I can't explain it any other way. I'm sure I'll form other opinions on subsequent listens but right now I'm pretty floored. dr_gingivitis
I listened to the whole thing through once now, and have two comments: 1. Several songs sound like mellow versions of A Ghost is Born, I hear Company in My Back, Muzzle Of Bees, and The Late Greats, but all mellower. 2. I have not been on this message board in so long that I don't recognise any of you people! I have to give it a few more listens, so far I like the end more then the beginnning, Walkin', and On and On and On are my two favorites so far, but that might just be because I already knew them. What Light is the only "new" one that grabbed me right away.
MattZ
I love how they bring it all back down in Shake it Off at 3 mins or so. Cool as a cucumber.
GutenAbend
Very mature sounding. What threw me off is the typical song structures.Im use to listening to YHF with the abnormal structures.Heavily influenced by old stax recordings.soul and R&B.Alot more calm than i expected.probably my least favorite wilco record yet but good nonetheless.
