Stephen King listed Buckcherry among his favorites of the year.

Interesting. Kind of a far cry from the Rock Bottom Remainders. I heard Stephen King listens to a bunch of Johnny Winter when he writes.

Iron Maiden To Play Their First Florida Show In 13 Years

Submitted by: DSR

Iron Maiden have confirmed that the final show ever of their massive Somewhere Back in Time World Tour 2008 - 2009 will be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on April 2nd at the BankAtlantic Center. This, the band's first concert in Florida in 13 years, will definitely be the last show of one of the most ambitious rock tours ever undertaken, and promises to be a big party night for both the band and audience.

Says drummer and local Florida resident Nicko McBrain, "We'll be arriving right in the middle of spring break, so this really promises to be a huge party for everyone. And I'm sure there will be more than a few sore heads in Fort Lauderdale the following day! The whole tour has been an amazing experience and this final leg back on Ed Force One promises to be crazier than ever!"

"It was quite something to bring to reality the mad idea of creating a flying tour bus out of a Boeing 757," McBrain continued, "but it's enabled us to go further to reach many fans in countries we have never played before, and also revisit fans we haven't seen for some time. And it's a long time since we played in Florida! The 757 truly has been our 'magic carpet,' as Bruce [Dickinson, vocals] describes it. Luckily for me, the magic carpet is stopping not far from my front door, which is very handy and a nice way to finish this tour. Not far to stagger home!"

Rammed with a full complement of band, crew and twelve tons of stage set and equipment, the band's customized Boeing 757, christened Ed Force One by the fans and flown again by Astraeus Airlines captain and vocalist Bruce Dickinson, will be once again circumnavigating close to 50,000 miles around the planet for concerts in 22 cities in 14 countries round the globe, making it a staggering 39 countries in total visited on this 2008-2009 tour, playing to almost two million fans.

The Somewhere Back in Time Tour revisits the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the 80's--in both choice of songs played, and the stage set, which is based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 Powerslave tour and featured on the recent DVD "Live after Death". This is arguably the most elaborate and spectacular show the band has ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986-1987, such as the Cyborg Eddie character.

Says band founder Steve Harris, "We will be loading onto the plane as much equipment as we can ram in, along with plenty of pyro! The set list will be a bit different than the shows we have done so far on this tour, as we will include a few more songs from the first four albums. This show is likely to be the last time we play many of these songs live, so we really will be giving it everything we have got! The tour was set to finish in Recife, Brazil, but we thought we should call in to Florida on the way home to play there for the first time in ages and to drop Nicko off at home! Using Ed Force One really does give us this degree of flexibility."

Having taking off in early February 2008, Maiden made their first appearances in New Zealand in 16 years via Belgrade, Dubai and Bangalore, followed by the long haul up to Mexico through a very extensive run through Latin America, finishing the tour now in Florida.

Comments Bruce Dickinson, "The unique way of touring last year with everyone and all our gear on the plane helped to make 2008 easily one of the most successful, exciting and fun years in the band's career. Taking Ed Force One around the planet and playing to our fans in so many different countries was an incredible experience for all of us. I personally found that flying and performing was one of the most challenging and satisfying things Ipve ever done, despite the rigours and the many logistical difficulties we encountered."

"In fact it was so much fun," Dickinson continues, "we decided to do it again as a final leg of this tour, and we really wanted to get back to some of the places we haven't been to for a long time. We'll also be visiting many new places along the way. All in all, this will be a fantastic way to round off a tremendous 12 months for the band. After this, we take a bit of time off, get our energy back and then start work on a new studio album."

Fans around the world will be able to see what it was like flying on Ed Force One in the recently announced movie "Flight 666", which will play in selected cinemas around the world on Tuesday, April 21st.

Fan club members will able to access an exclusive first pre-sale on Thursday, February 12th from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. They will also be able to be eligible to enter the "First To The Stage Barrier" privileged first-access draw.

There is a great Metal band out there called Baroness. I don't know anything about their other CD's but "Red Album" is really good. First metal CD I bought in a long time. It won CD of the year or something in Revolver so I took a shot. It's actually really good. Can't imagine anybody who likes metal not liking it.

That news has been around for a year or so - from what I have read it's not going to happen. I guess that has changed once again. This is the place to go:

Paranoid 3 Disc Release

Remember that 3 disc Paranoid release that's been stopped about a dozen times or more at the last minute before it comes out? Well, in the last two days it's popped up again.

Yet again, I approached Iommi management about it, and inquired as to the status this time. This time I'm told that it is indeed coming out. The listed release date is April 6th, which is a few weeks before the new H&H disc. Whoever put this together certainly seems to have picked an amusing release date. Only way it could have been MORE amusing is if it was three weeks later. :) Anyway, Disc 3 is probably going to be of most interest to people. It contains:

1. War Pigs (instrumental)

2. Paranoid (alternative lyrical version)

3. Planet Caravan (alternative lyrical version)

4. Iron Man (instrumental)

5. Electric Funeral (instrumental)

6. Hand Of Doom (instrumental)

7. Rat Salad (instrumental)

8. Fairies Wear Boots (instrumental)

The previous releases were thought to be Super Audio CD's, I don't see any note of that this time around. Will try and find out, I really like SACD's.

Anyway, check out the link above. I don't see any pre-order links available yet, when I see them, I'll pass 'em along.

what do you think of an alice in chains album without layne?

just doesn't sit right with me at all.

I saw the last tour with the new singer and it was not bad but not the same. The thing I liked is that the singer was doing his own thing and not trying to sound like Layne. I would prefer Cantrell just go out on his own and play smaller theaters.

I agree. I always thought that guy had such great range as a guitar player that he could do what ever he wanted. Holding on to the name "Alice in Chains" probably commands a few more bucks, but he should have all the money he needs. I always kind of wanted him to team up with Mark Lanegan or someone with that gravitas to their voice.

That's a great idea using Lanegan. I don't think Queens of the Stone Age are keeping him busy. His bluesy voice with Cantrell's harmonies on top would be great. I saw Jerry Cantrell several years ago in a small theatre. Someone actually stole his other guitar player's wah wah pedal right off the stage before the encore. He was Pissed. I was standing right there and did not even see it happen. Maybe that pushed him back to the bigger theatres.

William DuVall seems fine to me. It's not really something I would buy though. I just ran across the blog link, and posted it for the heck of it. I guess some would say they are not metal. But I have always thought that in some ways "grunge/the Seattle scene " was just a name for people to use who did not want to be associated with "hair metal."

I think most of those guys (Green River,Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Tad, Soundgarden) have acknowledged their debt to metal. I've always thought there was a metal streak there. Nirvana(or Cobain at least) always tried to distance himself from it, but its there. Maybe not their allegiance to Megadeath, but certainly Sabbath.

Exactly. Some of those bands showed it more than others.

I don't know if Nirvana ever distanced themselves from metal, or at least bands like Motorhead or Sabbath. I remember reading that "Celtic Frost" was playing perpetually on their tour bus. Certainly Dave Grohl has never shied away from it.

So, I was watching some kind of metal-themed show on VH1-Classic, and I saw a live Kiss "Deuce" video.

I never knew what the hell the lyrics were about.

"You know your man is working hard - HE'S WORTH A DEUCE!"

Since the only meanings I attach to deuce are either tennis related, or toilet related, I wondered if Gene Simmons was into Cleveland Steamers.

I looked up the song on wikipedia, and found this nugget (so to speak): "Deuce" was a popular street term in the late 1960s and early 1970s (around the time in which this song was written), meaning a blowjob for $20.00.

Learn something new every day, kids.

Damn right the Baroness kicks a LOT of ass.

I've seen them 4 times now and if they come near youcheck them out they destroy live.

The red album and the split CD are the only two you can really get your hands on now.

They have two others "First" and "Second" both are out of print. I have First it is very good. I have yet find Second :(

I saw the best metal show i've ever seen this past weekend at the Scion Rock Fest in Atlanta.

Kylesa, Torche, Baroness, Boris, Pig Destroyer, High On Fire, Neurosis, Mastodon, Septic Flesh, Toxic holocaust, Withered, Cyrptopsy and those were just the bands that i saw.

i was unable to see wolves in the throne room, krallice, tyr, and converge because they were playing at the same time and i could not get inside to see them (space was packed)

I might have mentioned this flick elsewhere on the board at some point because I've been obsessing over it for more than a year now, but it's officially out:

Such Hawks Such Hounds (formerly known as, "Heavy: The Movie")

It's fantastic...more glorious 70s influenced heavy stuff than you can shake a stick at. Plus, it's like porn for me because so many of the dudes are of the shaggy bearded variety and that sort of thing gets my lady-mojo rising.

Buy it here:

http://www.suchhawkssuchhounds.com/

Normally, I'd offer to rip my copy and up it to share, but I know they had a hard time getting this out/financing it and everything so I'd rather see ya drop some dough their way. :yes It's great, you won't regret it.

Country Metal - sounds like they have the Sabbath deal going on. You can't argue with that. Wait, did that guy say Sabbath was played out? Ha ha. Those bands wouldn't be doing what they are doing without Sabbath.

I get what he means, some songs or bands just get too much exposure, even if they are great (and Sabbath is great.)

Well, I figure these days Ozzy is more known as a TV personality more so than a metal pioneer.
