Analogman
I never really collected any of his shows. I think the only show I have is the one I saw back in 2007. What I mostly have is all that studio stuff that was up for download a few years ago.
thermocaster
Analogman, Where have you found the best quality recordings of Ryan from the Casal era? There are so many available on bt and dime and I don't have time to download them all and try them. Any other good source where they rate the quality of the recordings? Check out Archive.org. That's where I get most of the recordings from that era.
Analogman
I forgot about that. That is right - he allows his shows to be put on that site.
Analogman
I was trying to find the book this guy wrote - which I had - but seems to have disappeared. Anyhow, this seems to be a good site for Ryan news: Losering - David Menconi

knotgreen
The new deluxe Heartbreaker LP box set is a thing of beauty. I had no idea that Pat played on some of these songs! Anyone know more about Pat's history with DRA?

I googled before I made my post, and my search led me to that thread. Not much useful info there - the VC crowd is a knowledgable bunch, thought I'd ask here first. Smokestack Joe
Ryan on KCRW today talking about his new album: “I don’t think I’ve ever worked on anything harder than I have on it, and I’m still working on it, which is amazing. In fact, when I leave here, I go straight over to work on it more. And I think, probably, it’s the most songs I ever wrote for a record and it’s the most emotional…whatever this process was, was so cathartic, and was cathartic in a way where I actually made songs where I would listen back to what I had to say and go, ‘That is really messed up.’ Or listen to something and go, ‘There’s actual hope in there.’ What does that mean? I really let the process become part of me this time.”“I’ve really found a way to try to become optimistic and to find ways of writing that can be helpful to myself, and that’s maybe been a huge challenge.”

Honestly I didn't really pay attention to Ryan's last couple of albums so maybe I'll go ahead and pick this one up. Has anyone gotten the Heartbreaker reissue on vinyl yet? (Just the standard reissue, not the deluxe box set). revisiting Love is Hell. that album holds up well and is so much better out of the context of his then current drama. needs an updated cover though. Hell yeah. Love is Hell has always been one of my favorites of his.
