Gilmour is amazing! That would probably be my husband's preference too. He's a classic rock enthusiast and guitar nut too. Wilco he's not so fond of (ironically though, he was the one that found Wilco for me), although there's a song here and there he likes (I'm a Wheel and Casino Queen for instance). I've been trying to think of a way to get him to listen in to Nels Cline, in hopes that maybe he'll be hooked and want to go to Solid Sound with me someyear! Or at least a Wilco show?

Try playing him something Nels is a sideman on. Mike Watt's Contemplating the Engine Room might be a good place to start. Any guitarist should be able to find something on there that blows them away.

what is the nerdist podcast? i pulled it up and still am a little confused (definitely looks interesting).

Here's the explanation of the podcast from the Nerdist website, which you may have found:

Nerdist Podcast

I am Chris Hardwick. I am on TV a lot and have a blog at nerdist.com. This podcast is basically just me talking about stuff and things with my two nerdy friends Jonah Ray and Matt Mira, and usually someone more famous than all of us. Occasionally we swear because that is fun. I hope you like it, but if you don't I'm sure you will not hesitate to unfurl your rage in the 'reviews' section because that's how the Internet works.

You can download episodes from iTunes if you're curious. They're taking the podcast on the road in March and April; I'm not sure if they'll have guests at those shows, or if the three of them will just talk about stuff.

Curious about opinions on recent Lemonheads concerts...How have other's experiences been?

I went last night to see them and they were awful. Many band mistakes and Dando, not surprisingly, was really, really high. He barely moved, sung off key and in general didn't seem to give a shit. Played way fewer songs than he had been playing. He looked like inches away from death and probably hadn't bathed in a few days/weeks.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is anybody going to see the War on Drugs? They played an hour and a half away from me in Charlottesville on Thursday night and I couldn't make it. Just saw an AWESOME shirt they're selling at the shows and was trying to get ahold of one since they don't seem to have merch for sale online.

For me...

Black Keys 3/23 @ ODU

DBT 4/17 @ The Jefferson, CVILLE

Feist 5/9 @ Strathmore, Bethesda, MD

Radiohead 6/3 @ Verizon DC

DMB 6/17 @ Va Beach Amp(I know I know. I'm one of the only ones that still enjoys this band live)

Going to try to see the Avetts and Phish as well.

heading to ATL in 2 weeks. bypassing A Place To Bury Strangers, as they are just opening, and think I'm hitting Abby Gogo, Theyer Serrano and Ponderosa and following it up with an Earltastic second night headlined by Mindspiders.

Even though I'm already going to two concerts the next week (St. Vincent and Justin Townes Earle), I'm determined to make these work:

Beach House - The 40 Watt, Athens, Georgia

Heartless Bastards - The 40 Watt

Mostly because the 40 Watt is such a great venue, but I may not get another chance to see those two bands at such a small place.
