Queen Amaranthine
I've only seen Art of Almost so far--excellent choice and energetic performance. Jimmy Fallon seemed genuinely thrilled to have Wilco there. I rarely catch Fallon's show (not for lack of interest--just not enough hours in a day, cliche but true). Is he always so excited about musical guests, or is Wilco just special?
Shakespeare In The Alley
he's generally excited about everything and everyone it's basically the jimmy fallon charm
tangerine73
they were great.. they showed how it's done.
KevinG
For those of you who missed it or want to see it again: http://stereogum.com/1103691/watch-wilco-on-fallon/video/ Also can anyone tell me what is up with Mikael's mustache? It is not a good look on him, especially with that pink shirt.
jff
That was excellent. Thanks for posting the video.
lost highway
That was a shortened version of Art of Almost. They cut some intro time, and some transition time. Didn't hurt the song, really. The rock out part at the coda sounded especially ferocious. If you could have shown me that ten years ago and said this is a WIlco song I wouldn't have believed you. uncool2pillow
Six minutes of that kind of noise on NBC isn't bad.
gogo
The Roots are also fans. Questlove was tweeting yesterday about how cool it was to get to listen to Wilco on his lunch hour.
rwilson580
Holy sh$t...these are great versions of both of these songs. I think I'm looking forward to Saturday night in Cooperstown. Yes...yes...I definitely am.
Bart
Was Laminated Cat broadcast on the show or just some "backstage" thing? I happened to be randomly, briefly concious last night and saw them do Art Of Almost, but thought the show ended right after that. Did it, or did I fall back asleep and miss the second song? gogo
No, that one is a web extra.
rareair
loved both songs. never tire of laminated cat.
Bart
No, that one is a web extra. Thanks! I'm blocked from youtube type broadcasts at work so I couldn't check it myself.
linclink
Wow--bold choices!Bold choices indeed...and great performances to match!!
jimtweedy1977
The Roots are also fans. Questlove was tweeting yesterday about how cool it was to get to listen to Wilco on his lunch hour. The Roots actually opened for Wilco back in 2005 for at least a few shows. They opened for them at Merriweather Post Pavillion, a show which I attended. The Roots were pretty good live; I wouldn't say that I'm crazy about them, but they were definitely an enjoyable opener. lazy locomotives
I have to agree on the song choices - totally unexpected...and the camera work on both is stellar...wow. Love both performances, but Laminated is off the charts...
Sweet Papa Crimbo
I know it was on the first Loose Fur record, but damn, they really need to release this one with the band performance.
-seven
I know it was on the first Loose Fur record, but damn, they really need to release this one with the band performance. Totally agree. It's become one of my favorite Wilco songs. The performance at Solid Sound 2010 was spectacular: Oh and I think what's up with Mikael's mustache is "Brooklyn" http://youtu.be/br_LHrCItPE
calvino
I know it was on the first Loose Fur record, but damn, they really need to release this one with the band performance. It is on the Red Rock and Geneva downloads, will that suffice?
-seven
There on the Red Rock and Geneva downloads, will that suffice? Not really. I'd love an mp3 of this and the acoustic version of Spiders so I can listen while I drive.
calvino
Not really. I'd love an mp3 of this and the acoustic version of Spiders so I can listen while I drive. You can purchase the mp3 (or lossless) of the Geneva show - the performance includes Laminated Cat and an acoustic version of Spiders. Below is the Wilco sitehttp://wilco.kungfustore.com/category/491-roadcase/product/3728-july-8-2012-geneva-il-wilr02 Download discusion is here:http://viachicago.org/topic/48136-wilco-officially-released-live-shows/

Below is the Wilco sitehttp://wilco.kungfus...eneva-il-wilr02 Download discusion is here:http://viachicago.or...sed-live-shows/ Thanks for this info. Do you know if the download comes as 1 track or does each song have it's own track? I'd pay the $9 bucks for these two songs but I wouldn't want to listen to the whole show every time I want to hear them.
Magnetized
It's actually a very nicely organized download. I'm terrible at these things and I had no problem. Each track is separately labeled, and if you use something like itunes you can just save the whole show there.
-seven
Sweet. Thank you both. You just made my day.
bböp
This is surely of interest to no one, but I just had a chance to watch the Fallon performance of Laminated Cat and just thought it was funny that Jeff had a slight lyric flub (he never actually sang "...it's not for the season" but actually sang "...they're not worth reading" twice.) He probably didn't even realize it...or if he did, never let on the way he sometimes does live when he realizes he's transposed a lyric.
