Skian
Grateful Dead - Long Beach Sports Arena , Long Beach, CA - 12/13/80. Great show! Nope that was wrong. Some dust just cleared. The first concert I went to was Rick Danko and Paul Butterfield. They played the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. My best guess would be 1978. I remember Danko was smashed.Kinda disappointing. Then came the Dead show. Sorry for the confusion.
calvino
Mellencamp in 87, while supporting the Lonesome Jubilee record, which was released 25 years ago. Great show.
worldrecordplayer
The Chambers Brothers, Westbury Music Fair. Must have been around 1971. "Time Has Come Today" was a big song at summer camp. Then Black Sabbath at the Academy of Music, on the Masters of Reality tour. So was 1971 or 1972. My one and only flirtation with anything of that genre.

KevinG
Hopefully the next generation will fair better than I did. I took my son to Andrew Bird at the Pabst theatre in Milwaukee earlier this year.
mpolak21
It was probably the kid's country band, Riders in the Sky, I saw them at the Capitol Music Theater in Wheeling, WV when I was in Kindergarten/First Grade. Julian Lennon and Weird Al Yankovich were other early shows I saw as a kid. --Mike

PopTodd
Not including the golden oldies revival concerts that my parents dragged me to when I was little: U2 -- 1987I was a Junior in H.S. and was able to drive my own damn self to the show. Pretty great one to start with. As far as first small-venue show:Meat Puppets -- also 1987I was a senior in H.S. and fell in love with a girl who was sitting on the stage, throwing her hair around, and playing air drums. Magnetized
I've posted this before somewhere, but for me it was Herman's Hermits and the Rolling Stones--a triple bill with somebody else I don't remember, back in 1965. This was early in the British Invasion and it was in Virginia Beach, VA. I was 15. But here's the kicker--Herman's Hermits were the headliner! The Stones played just before them, and I wish to god I could remember who the first band was.

Winston Legthigh
Sha Na Na. I was in 3rd grade. I'm thinking it was 1978? Austin MN. This was when their variety show was one of my favorite shows on TV, so I was in heaven. Other than that, my first "real" show (all friends, no parents) was U2, The Unforgettable Fire tour, 9th grade (84?) , Minneapolis Armory. Red Rocket opened.

douglish
Elton John & Ray Cooper at the Rainbow Theatre in London, 1977... I was 14 and begged my parents to take me. Queen Amaranthine
Sorry if this derails too much--it's something I've wondered, but I didn't think it worth its own thread but not sure where else to ask this: Is there any member of this site who has not seen Wilco live?
