-- "Happy 100th episode!" Susie shows off the special 100th episode artwork done by Jeff Knurek which features the Tweedy family & friends that have appeared on the show. Plus, a few Easter eggs.
-- Susie pans the phone over to Jeff's spot on the couch and he isn't there. She and the Tweedy gang head upstairs to look for Jeff. They find him in the bathtub where he's confused as to why they are all there. He speaks of a dream he had where he started an Instagram show during a pandemic. Jeff says that he's going to have his wedding vows renewed during the special episode.

It should be noted that I used the wrong link for Susie’s cancer fundraiser. Sorry if that caused any confusion for anyone trying to donate. Somehow I found the link for the one from 2018. (Insert Homer Simpson’s “D’oh!”)

That error has been fixed. Thank you to Susan Miller Tweedy for noticing the error. One of the more surreal sentences that I’ve typed out in this forum. 2020...am I right?

So after I'd insisted that "I Wish I was Ian Dury" had been played live, and Jeff was unsure, of course I had to tear my cd racks apart to locate a recording. At first I got nowhere because I was scanning for Ian's name in the tracklistings. But then I remembered the title that had been floating around back when we didn't know the real one...as Paul said, "Turn Around and Come Back to Me". Once I remembered that, I found a show easily. The Blue Note, Columbia MO, on 10-6-95. I think it was played several times that summer & fall.

 

Another fun factoid for the clients! How's this for full circle? Wilco's very first show as Wilco was on 11-17-94, at Cicero's in St. Louis, MO. Tucked in among their set was a little crowd-pleaser called "Reincarnation"! 

Somewhere, Roger Miller is grinning.

Yeah, I had forgotten in the moment that he played "Ian Dury" a handful of times way back in '95. Oops...and thanks for the correction, Donna. Anyway, it appears maybe only four times, though? I found this interesting little post that the Glorious Noise site did about it just over a decade ago now. I remember somebody tried to request it at one of the Vic shows once a while back — or maybe just inquired about it — and Jeff didn't seem too interested in playing it then. Guess pandemic times are good for something!

 

And unfortunately, no further word on that mystery song near the end of the show last night yet. It sounded too composed to my ears as well to be just an improv, off-the-cuff tune, but I've obviously been wrong many times before.

Without watching the episode again I am fairly certain that was an acoustic bass. I asked Susie to get Jeff to show us the instrument but alas, no luck.

-- Jeff gets word to spill the beans on the live Uncle Tupelo record that he just hinted at moments before. The album artwork reveals that the show is from the Lounge Ax recorded on March 24, 1994. The album gatefold is a picture of the crowd shot from the stage.
