  1. Warehouse is a Husker Du album. Do you mean Workbook? I think the sound of that CD is great. Never heard it on vinyl, so maybe I'm missing something. Workbook is my absolute #1 album, so I wouldn't mind hearing an attempt at remastering, just don't think it's needed.
  2. The momentum that this movement has picked up in the last few years has amazed me. My state's (IA) supreme court authorized it about a year ago. While there are many loud protests from the far right, I think most people have either supported it or been ambivalent. A moderate candidate won the Republican primary against a right winger who threatened to challenge the court through executive order. I used to think this was a movement that was going to require patience, but now I think it's coming sooner rather than later.
  3. Pat Robertson will blame the Godless Obama administration, no doubt.
  4. They probably can't fix all the drum sounds on Husker Du stuff. But re-mastering and re-mixing could "hide" that sound a bit more. Never heard the vinyl Husker stuff, but had a cassette (official release, not copy) of Warehouse. It sounded much better than the CD.
  5. I understand where you're coming from. I mostly like the last 2 albums. I'm not sure, however, the lineup is the problem for those who disliked them. I think it comes down to Tweedy's songwriting. In one of the interviews posted recently, Nels basically said W(TA) is a Tweedy album. Some of my favorite artists have really changed their songwriting (for the worse) when their lives become more stable and happy. Tweedy and Bob Mould are prime examples. Tweedy's songwriting has maintained much more than Mould's.
  6. Anyone else get nervous when any members of Wilco start talking abut the state of the current lineup and how well it's lasted and how well the get along? It's like someone telling the pitcher they're working on a no hitter.
  7. Congrats, Sunken Mountain! I will soon go into Soccer withdrawal. NFL training camp will cure me.
  8. I'm with my in-laws now watching Jimmy Buffett on CMT. Could be worse. The in-laws are divorced. Definitely favor dad & stepmom over mom and stepdad, but all is well. Dad in law always has lots of good booze on hand.
  9. Dull and IMO, more poor officiating. Lots of dives by Spain. No excuse for Netherlands. I only saw 2nd half and extra time, the ball hardly made it near Spain's goal. Spain deserved to win.
  10. So the Yankees are getting Cliff Lee...
  11. Wow. I've had nightmares like that. Glad everyone was okay and that the cats made their way home. Good luck with everything on the road ahead.
  12. That HR was 1 of his 9 career RBIs. That's gotta be low compared to other pitchers in the NL. Congrats to Johan. Love watching former Twins still doing well. edit: 1st career HR, BTW
  13. A fan fell from the 2nd deck of Arlington stadium during the Rangers/Indians game. He was apparently moving all extremeties and speaking at the hospital. Four who he landed on were injured but treated on site. The looks of players and other spectators who witnessed the fall were telling.
  14. Owen Meany is 10,000,000x better a book than Simon Birch is a movie. Glad you read it.
  15. If you don't like watching the World Cup or any brand of soccer, that's fine. To each their own, but all of your critiques listed here apply to other sports. Horrendous officiating - Baseball, basketball (cheating ref in the NBA) Ridiculous dives - Again, baseball (players leaning in to "take one for the team"), basketball, almost any athlete will feign injury to get a judgment from a ref. I will grant this happens more in soccer than other sports, but that's because of the nature of the fouling. Uruguay-Ghana discussion - Almost any sport discussed on any discussion board.
  16. I thought there were horns in both. 2 of my favorite tracks on Revolver, the overlap in my head.
  17. I agree with this. I have a hard time arguing that a goal should be rewarded when the ball didn't cross the goal line, even if only for cheating.
  18. Des Moines' 80/35 festival yesterday. Yo La Tengo & Spoon were great. Relax with family today. Grill if the rain stops.
  19. Klose almost looked liked he was apologizing to the Argentinian goalie at the end of the game.
  20. One more. I remember watching this show live and wondering exactly what Westerberg asks at the beginning. Network TV showing Lou Reed, Replacements, Bowie (easier to understand being on network TV). It was like a show catered to exactly me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5CaagwSYGk
