Hype Machine top 50 albums of 2008/2009
Kalle replied to Duck-Billed Catechist's topic in Someone Else's Song
I actually think this might be one of the few end of the year lists I can say I agree with for the most part. Very cool indeed. -
Let's hope for something similar tomorrow in Ann Arbor! Leaving tomorrow morning hope it's safe driving!
-
IMO the cover looks like it took 10 minutes at most to make, nice picture but at this point in time judging from past record covers etc. that have all been awesome, I expect a bit more.
-
There's definitely something about those songs though, the pure simplicity of them yet all the intricacy, just great. And same, I've been a big Phosphorescent fan for a while now and this actually might be my favorite thing he's done!

It's absolutely fantastic isn't it?

Easily one of the best Canadian bands out there today and Dekker is one fine songwriter. There is still a good possibility my band will be opening up with them on the Sault date, fun fun!

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=-JXT3D7vZWg It was alright, the song really misses the falsetto part into the chorus, and it did definitely sound like they were just figuring things out, which I hope they figure out by the time I see him in April.

I'll be going to the Toronto date as I am already down there for Andrew Bird on the Friday, yusssssss.

There were quite a few presales for the tour today, did anyone else get tickets? Apparently (at least for the presale anyway) ticketbastard was blocking all Canadian credit cards and billing addresses, so I had to get my one and only American friend (being a border town does help) buy my tickets for me, I wonder if this is Morrissey hating Canadians even more by blocking all Canadians because one province has a seal hunt? But really c'mon Morrissey I bet you've even worn some leather shoes. Nonetheless I will be at the Ann Arbor date and I am quite excited.

Solace I totally think Heretics is one of his best songs as well! I haven't found anyone else that agrees with me but it's just a pop masterpiece (especially the key change in the middle woooo). As for the Pfork review, I agree with it for the most part and it is a quite flattering review yet not a truly flattering score, but realistically did any of us think they'd give him over an 8? I didn't anyways. This album is a total grower and I might even enjoy more than MPoE (listen to it with headphones people!). The record isn't even out in Canada yet, they pushed it back another week for some rea

Most of the time I listen to my music on my very nice Harmon Kardon speakers, so it certainly isn't compromising, but I will go for many periods of time where I will listen to an album before bed with my far too expensive studio headphones to really "get" a record and I must say the experience is just so much better. Last few night I went to bed to the new Animal Collective and Antony, very different yes but probably not the most soothing things to go to sleep to lol.

They are absolutely fantastic, and I totally agree with the Will Oldham meets Iron And Wine comparison, pretty dead on there. I also found out that they will be coming through the Sault in the next couple months after their Tweedy stint and my band will be opening up for them!
-
Is M. Ward really religious or just sort of really enjoys the imagery and the story lines like Tweedy does sometimes? Though not to say Tweedy isn't religious (yeah I know let's not get into that again lol).

I thought it was 'decent' at best, pretty boring and sleepy imo.

Albums that changed your life - Article on CNN.com

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Nick Drake - Pink Moon The Beatles - Revolver All for different purposes but all just as relevant and like the thread says, life changing. -
He's said that he was going to quit blogging about 10 times in the past year and he keeps on coming back to it, I really don't believe that he will stop playing music forever either, he's very very quick to make big decisions concerning his life it seems and this seems no different than anything else. I completely agree with other posts about feeling bad for the guys in the band, he must be super super hard to create with let alone spend that much time with on tour etc. Not to sound cynical because I love Ryan's records and think he's a fantastic songwriter but he will probably break up with t

Ok so one listen in and my first impression of "Stars Of Leo" certainly doesn't reflect the albums so far, the first three tunes are catchy as all heck, and I absolutely love the lyrics on the first one and the rest are no slouches either. Don't get my first comment wrong I absolutely love Matt but to my first impression (and still sort of I guess) of Stars Of Leo, I was hearing a lot of the same old structure sound etc. Nonetheless I think we have another album to add to the Andrew Bird and Animal Collective categories for this year.
-
Yeah even though I criticized the one song I would like to hear the record and it isn't showing up on the multiple places I venture to.
-
Oh yeah you're probably right on that, for sure.

Roger, wilco. Tweedy said once in an interview he just flipped through a dictionary once really quickly because they needed a name for something, a show I presume.

I found it pretty boring personally, if by classic you mean "sounds virtually the same as the past two records" then I guess so.
