Politics 2016 (election edition)
sonicshoulder replied to lost highway's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Last night was the first full debate I've tuned in for. As a person really lacking any party affiliation the only individual on that stage that I feel could "run" this country was John Kasich. If Trump wins this nomination its a slam dunk for Hillary. I just can't imagine anyone who is not on the far right actually pushing Trump's button when that curtain closes behind them. Trump seems to run out of policy answers once he gets past his obligatory "I am not a politician...these guys are...they are all talk". Rubio looks like he would get run over in a room full of world leaders...just doesn't -
Does anybody know of a roadcase show where "Love Is Like A Wire" was played?

You're no fun!!! Everybody knows all political threads must contain polarizing views, extremely long posts and our very best vocabulary.

The bottom line is he is a presidential candidate who is not debating via cue card. What's coming out of his mouth is what he believes...good, bad, indifferent or ignorant and people find it refreshing. I'm not personally a supporter but I am enjoying the ride. The fact that he is this far and relevant having said what he has said tells me he's going to keep on speaking with the same tact or lack there of. I'm kind of enjoying watching the career politicians squirm a little. He is basically Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack disrupting the country club, its not quite as funny but to me its reall

In an average month how much do you listen to Wilco?
sonicshoulder replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
I would say I average 3 songs a day. I'm probably in my truck a total of 3 hours a day with a 64 gb Ipod that doesn't really leave the console. I typically run all 64 gigs on random and I think I have 26 Wilco "albums" on there so they come up from time to time. What I have been doing lately though is getting in and hitting random to get to my first song, then going un-random alphabetically from there on. Kind of like going thru a dictionary of your songs and wondering what is the next tune that starts with those letters. It may require some fast forwarding though unless you want to listen to -

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History series. These are all top notch. Blueprint for Armageddon is about WW1. For some reason, and maybe this doesn't apply to everyone's education, but we glossed over WW1 in about a half hour in Social Studies. It is amazing/disgusting how little Americans know about the Great War. He also has a great series on the Eastern front of WW2...again a section of history ignored by American educators. All of his stuff is excellent but these two stand out for me if you like history.

So it would be like Pippen taking the shot...caveat being you know he is going to make it. Its not like Pat is just going to completely fuck it up, drop his guitar and walk off stage never to play again. I'm sure Pat knows his way around a guitar solo...I've also always felt like his keyboard work just jumps out of the speakers. ...and you Mr.Ashtray...for the record I could hear you drooling 2 rows back at the end of "You Satellite". I know your preferences by now and acoustic is not at the top of the description. I believe your exact words were "thats a keeper".

I was sitting/standing at the Bloomington show the other night and I mentioned I would like to hear Pat play the Impossible Germany solo. Is this blasphemy??? taboo???...am I this spoiled???...will the mods ban me for this??? Just thought it would be interesting to hear someone else's twist on this. For the record Nels appeared to be really dialed in Friday night, I think he liked the room from his vantage point. "BBN" into "Its Just That Simple" hootenanny style might just have been the pinnacle of my live Wilco experiences. That is the way BBN should be played and I just love when John ge

This is incredibly accurate in my opinion, especially the Summerteeth and Ghost descriptions. However let's not taint Wilco the Album to the untrained ear....those who have not heard other albums could absolutely love that album(maybe). Die hard Wilco lifers have trouble accepting it in comparison to the band's other work. It's not exactly the chopped liver it is made out to be around here. It's better than most of Maroon 5's catalog.

I am gong to digest this album before I proceed with a full review, or rank, or comparison(of which I will not provide any of because I realize bands change and evolve and people often interpret that as sucking or selling out or getting their shit together creatively) but I would like to say last night was one of the most exciting musical events, outside of a live performance, that I have experienced in a long while. From the time the first text came in from a buddy, to me verifying what I thought was him fucking with me, to sitting in the dark at my computer all night with the headphones on i

I do this in jest since within an hour of this 36 minute album releasing we had some ranking flying around.

I still get at least 3 or 4 cds a month in the mail, truth is I signed a 25 year contract with Columbia House....but hey, my first 10 only cost a penny! Kidding aside I buy tons of used cds off of Amazon and Ebay, burn them into Itunes and put them in the basement. I like having a hard copy and I scour the liner notes while the cd is importing before sending it off to the dungeon. Even new releases I find people selling "used" for $7 or $8. I am guessing they buy it, burn it and sell it to get a half priced album. I actually bought Pernice Bros "Live a Little" for a $0.01+$2.99 shipping. It wa

Somewhat on this thread but maybe not mentioned in the above list(I'm not going to read it), it dawned on me the other day how untalented JayZ is. Now let me preface this by saying I have never owned a rap album outside of License to Ill and maybe the green Beastie Boys cd at one time but I can give credit where credit is due. I do see/hear what some would find appealing with Snoop,Biggie and maybe WuTang or Outcast amongst others(sorry these references are so lame, would you ever believe I was a white guy from Kentucky). I know there are other rappers worse than Jay Z(Little Wayne) but not a

My favorite hands down. I would put it in my top 5 "road trip/driving" albums and this is a very important category in my musical catalog. The album goes up, down, in and out and can be interpreted many different ways.

TWEEDY — 6/11/14, Louisville, KY (Brown Theatre)
sonicshoulder replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
This truly was one of my favorite Tweedy shows. Felt like more for your money with the new stuff and the old split. The new stuff made for a great show visually watching the guys work through the lack of familiarity. Second show at the Brown and I think the acoustics are just about second to none. Took my 67 year old dad who was thoroughly entertained with Jeff's guitar skill and banter. Highlight of my night by far though as pointed out by ashtray was running into Scott McCaughey at the bar across the street. I did go a little "that guy" and get a picture with him while sporting a Minus 5 t- -
Strangest Guest performers you have seen at a show

Billy Gibbons at a Smashing Pumpkins concert. He just kinda came out and waived and exited the stage. Bizzare -
Quaint little show at an old church turned multi-roomed venue here in Newport, Ky. Him and his wife with an opening by a local guy and fellow Creekdipper Dave Wolfenberger. Twelve dollar show, about 16 people there. Olson was walking around before the show sipping a tea, he pulled up a chair about 8 feet from the stage and watched his buddy open. Told stories, shot from the hip, sounded fantastic and gave everyone in attendance reason to believe he's legally insane. Absolutely fantastic evening. I really like his solo stuff so I enjoyed it immensely, he did play a couple Jayhawks songs begrudg

Hardest cd to extract in the history of cd extraction. This problem seems to be getting worse too. I now prefer the cardboard sleeve considering I usually only take a cd out once to burn it and then put it away forever.

I promise I'm not trying to start a 12 page holy war VC thread but I have to say I thought Dylan sounded really bad in Cincinnati Saturday. The rest of the show was outstanding. Richard Thompson seems to be an excellent fit, MMJ sounded as tight and energetic as always and Wilco the same but Dylan was really disappointing(for me). Of course his band is tight and sounds amazing as I'm sure he pretty much and deservingly so has his pick of musicians but as far as Bob went if you didn't already recognize the song and know the lyrics you literally had no idea what he was saying. Not in an Eddie
