  1. Ha! Final in what way? I don't think he's ever stopped touring. I saw them open for the Sonics last summer and they were great. Looks like he's doing another tour opening for the Sonics this summer.
  2. This is a funny Trump story. I would love to have seen Keith confront him: http://news.nationalpost.com/arts/music/that-time-donald-trump-was-fired-by-canadian-concert-promoter-michael-cohl-and-the-rolling-stones
  3. This is sad if it's true ... Keith Emerson's girlfriend says he killed himself because he feared disappointing his fanshttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/12192653/Keith-Emersons-girlfriend-says-he-killed-himself-because-he-feared-disappointing-his-fans.html
  4. Interesting discussion of the Anthology Series (and Free As a Bird) here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2016/03/09/george-martin-kept-his-hands-off-the-beatles-worst-song-it-was-one-of-his-best-decisions/
  5. Agreed. Fantastic stuff. My only complaint was that I missed Kelly Hogan's vocals on some of the songs.
  6. Neko Case (with Felice Brothers opening)
  7. Ha! I was searching for the most recent Grateful Dead thread and found the one just limited to 5/8/77 and dusted it off.
  8. Glad to hear that you (and smells like flowers) liked it. When they were doing the trip I set up a facebook page (now just called Rinker Buck) and they would send in reports and pictures from the trip. There are some great photos of the wagons and mules. And if you liked that book, I'd recommend his first book Flight of Passage. It's another crazy adventure story. When he was 15 and his older brother was 17 they fixed up a Piper Cub and flew it from New Jersey to California.
  9. Someone is writing a book about this show: http://ezramagazine.cornell.edu/Update/Feb16/EU.Grateful.Dead.77.html
  10. Not a great year but that Augusta show they played was pretty awesome. One of my favorite shows that I attended.
  11. Ha! My brother in law wrote that (and I'm thanked in the credits at the end)! Let me know what you think!
  12. I'm bumming. Neko's show here in Boston just got moved from the Orpheum (where I had 10th row seats) to the general admission House of Blues ...
  13. Very funny parody of recent Kozelek (including the song I Watched the Movie Revenant with Leo DiCaprio): http://sunkilmoonalbum8.bandcamp.com/album/under-the-canopy
  14. My daughter was watching a recent episode of New Girl and California Stars came on in one scene.
  15. Diverting the thread a bit here but while I was watching them play Star Wars all the way through at the Orpheum in Boston a couple of weeks ago, it reminded me that I had seen two other bands play albums straight through at the Orpheum: Lou Reed playing New York and Husker Du playing Warehouse.
  16. Pretty good article about Mavis in today's NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/14/arts/music/mavis-staplesno-longer-wants-tomake-you-cry.html?_r=0 This was news to me: The documentary notes that Bob Dylan proposed to Ms. Staples when their paths crossed on the folk and civil-rights circuit. Their first kiss was at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival, Ms. Staples said in the 2014 book "I'll Take You There" by the Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot. “It was always in my mind that I couldn’t marry a white guy. I was so young and stupid,” she told Mr. Kot. “To this day, I could kick myself
  17. I just read Kristin Hersh's book about Vic and thought it was great.

  19. Not much to add here - really enjoyable show. Great set list. I do wonder if there was a curfew (though I don't remember the Orpheum having a 10:30 curfew before). I saw on some social media before the show that Wilco was playing 8:30 to 10:30 and that's exactly what they did. Tweedy seemed very business-like, focused on getting in as many songs as they could. He often switched guitars as one song was ending so they could start right up. It kept the show moving - which was great - but allowed no room for banter.
  20. I once saw Belle & Sebastian ask all of the men to sit down for a song (at a GA venue) so that the women could see better.
  21. Here's an hour long video of Peter Wolf interviewing Westerberg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkNb8kY_DdI
  22. Tweedy and Dinosaur Jr doing Tarpit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7R6m70eiR4
  23. That is quite a lineup of guests they have had this week.
