Velvet Underground bootleg w/ Previously unheard song.
Oil Can Boyd replied to HighFives's topic in Someone Else's Song
I know there is lots of discussion on the Dylan thread about emptying the archives, but the Velvet Underground are getting pretty good at it too. A box set of the Complete Matrix Tapes is being released: http://pitchfork.com/news/61429-the-velvet-underground-the-complete-matrix-tapes-box-set-to-be-released/ -

They are still out there but their touring is pretty limited to the Boston to DC corridor. Here's a pretty good article about what they are up to: https://artery.wbur.org/2015/09/15/the-feelies

My interest in MM begins and ends with Sun Kil Moon's Tiny Cities album. I've tried a bunch of their stuff but it doesn't do it for me.

Thoughts? I just bought it but haven't listened to it yet.

I thought Rape of Nanking was a really good and moving (and horrifying) book but I had no idea Iris Chang committed suicide.

Read this in high school and didn't quite get it. But I picked it up again and I'm really enjoying it. I think it helps to have been in New Orleans.

Ha! No offense meant. I think that one confused me more than the others and I have only seen it once so maybe I need to watch it again.

I loved it. I would definitely put it near the top. (Although I'm not sure what I'd put near the bottom. Life Aquatic maybe?) It was interesting to see some of his signature techniques being developed.

Had a funny experience last night. I'm a Wes Anderson fan and thought I had seen all of his movies. My daughter was going to watch Rushmore last night and I thought I'd watch it again. I realized about five minutes in that I had never seen it all the way through.

I realize it's not as exotic as many places mentioned in this thread but I was just in Ireland for 8+ days and it was great. I definitely want to go back and spend more time in the west.

Looks like McCann thought Iglesias didn't try hard enough on turning a double play and then on a grounder that Iglesias sort of waived at.

My fall so far looks like the Sons (and Daughters) of the Velvet Underground: Feelies 9/18 Yo La Tengo 10/3 Luna 10/10

There's also a relatively new YLT thread already going so maybe they can be combined. http://viachicago.org/topic/50884-new-yo-la-tengo/?p=1573086

Nice follow-up to Tinkers.

I still love this one.

I'm a big fan of China Cat > I Know You Rider and this is one of my absolute favorites.

I thought they were great at Boston Calling but can't say I disagree with your comment.

Sorry - been away for a bit. The Buffalo Tom show was great. They played Let Me Come Over all the way through and then a bunch of other stuff. It was nice to see some of the songs from that album that I hadn't seen in a long time (if ever).

Great shots and write-up Tim - I felt like I was there. And nice to see recognition for William Tyler. I've only seen him once and he was tremendous.
