I love this line:

they resolved to be the version of Phish they prized most: the intently practiced, well-prepared Phish from the mid-90s.

As for openers, I'm going with this trifecta:

Curtain-> All Things Reconsidered-> Fluffhead

YEM will close the second set. ;)

Wow, i figured this was just a reunion tour. Didn't know this was going to be a continuous thing. Makes the possibility of getting fired seem not so bad!

Just don't try to sell your own shirts:

Phish is kicking off its reunion tour with a lawsuit against bootleggers. The Vermont-based rock band, which developed a cult following over two decades before splitting up, will perform for the first time since 2004 tomorrow night at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. But first the foursome will ask a judge to block the sale of bootleg T-shirts, posters, and other merchandise at its upcoming concerts. US District Judge Raymond Jackson will consider the band's request for an injunction this afternoon. (AP)

I thought it was already illegal to sell any bootleg items with Phish (or any other band) likeness on them.

A nice piece in today's NY Times.

and I like this one too,

thanks for posting this. so glad to hear the band rehearsing and enjoying the long tunes. also, i'm glad the band is being intentional about taking care of themselves first and foremost. this will make the music last and it will remain good. i'm reminded of the book Garcia, his biography where it's made clear that garcia was not taking care of himself and felt all the pressure of the DEAD corporation on his back. too bad, because it all suffered and he died for it. there was a point after his coma that he wanted to just concentrate on the jerry band. i wish he had done that and i hope phish sticks with it's plane. so excited for the shows!

They're looking for an injunction, not rewriting legislation. I don't know the details of this but they probably just want to be able to stop people from selling the shirts just for the duration of the weekend without having to go to trial.

A post on a blog about the rehearsal.

To echo some what has been said, I just saw this on Billboard.com:

Phish Demo 20 Songs For New Album

March 05, 2009 02:10 PM ET

David J. Prince, N.Y.

Phish have recorded demo versions of 20 new songs for its next record, according to an interview published in the New York Times. No longer signed to a major label, the band is mulling an independent release for the to-be-recorded album.

Phish is only likely to perform one of the tunes, "Backwards Down the Number Line," at its first reunion concerts this weekend in at the Hampton Coliseum in Vermont.

The band plans to make high quality recordings of all three of this weekend's shows available as free MP3 downloads from its livephish.com website.

While Phish is taking a pragmatic approach to online distribution of the concert recordings, its taking a much harder line against real world bootleggers: yesterday, the band asked a U.S. District Judge to order police to seize unlicensed t-shirts, posters, and other merchandise being sold at or near shows on the upcoming tour. A ruling is expected this afternoon.

In the Times interview, the band acknowledged for the first time that its 2004 farewell concerts at The Coventry were subpar, with drummer Jon Fishman calling them "one of the great train wrecks in live concert history." The band promises a rehearsed, precise sound for its return.

But the most important question for Phish heads is still up in the air: what songs will the band select for the Hampton shows? "It's like Tetris," Phish's Trey Anastasio told the Times of set list creation process. Band members consulted a list of every song they ever played live, went around in a cirlce name personal favorites, and even did some trading amongst themselves before arriving at a list of 80 possibilities.

2nd best place to be would've been here if they were streaming it live. Oh well. I am surprised that they aren't doing that -- I'd think that might have cut down on some of the crazy scalping. Not complaining, just surprised.

I have to admit that it feels a bit like a holiday today.
