fickerson
if taxes were raised on gas, and the revenue put towards public transportation, in the long run there would be a decrease in demand and eventually prices. of course, this will never happen, because it would be wildly unpopular. and so the cycle continues, brought to you by our good friends at OPEC. Wilco Worshipper
It's $3.17 in my town here in Mass, but if you sneak just a few towns over you can get it for $2.95...sooo weird!!! So that is INDEED, what I do, as I go out there every Thursday night anyway. I went once during the daytime and the lines were ridiculous, as you can imagine!
allgodsmoney
4000 US dead, Unknown Iraqi casulties. 3 trillion in debt for my kids to pay. That's the price of gas for me. I'll be riding my bike to work, but we are driving to St. louis to see the boys. I guess I'm the International enabler! Atticus
you people should change your perspective. I just think of it as "freedom fuel"Â I'm a great american
explodo
I just went over 40 for the first time yesterday. I have the smallest gas tank in the world, so that was pretty hard to stomach. But, you know, we could be in the Ukraine or something. I sometimes wish they would just hurry up and hit six or seven dollars a gallon so Americans could be forced to adjust their lifestyles accordingly, but then I remember that not everybody lives in a city where they could be taking a bus or train everywhere. fickerson
Wouldn't that kind of favor big cities over rural areas? of course it would, in the short term. but eventually, lower prices (and lower dependency on oil, and less control and wealth for the saudis) would benefit everyone. kimcatch22
$3.69 at a lot of gas stations on the north side of Chicago, but it's already been explained how many extra taxes are in that price. But at $75 for a monthly CTA pass (which I don't even have, but just saying,) and $0 for my walk to work, I don't fill up very often and can usually hold out until a trip to the burbs to visit my family. I can't imagine what it would be like to pay Chicago gas prices once every week or two.

TCP
I don't have a clue what a "gallon" is but I can tell you that gas here is $1.25 a LITRE!!!! Which is similar to last summers prices! And it's only March April. I just got a job but it appears all my income will go towards keeping my gas guzzling pick up truck running.

Good Old Neon
$3.19 as of this morning, but that was hours ago, in oil time, it could be ten or more cents higher at this time of day.
yermom
It was $3.28 for the middle stuff last night. I wish my town was more hospitable to bike riders and that we had good public transport. When I was a kid in OKC, I loved riding the Metro bus with my mom and she'd let me push the little strip on the window that goes "beee-dooo" when it was time to get off. W(TF)
Around $1.12 a liter. It's been higher than this...and I don't think I've seen gas below $0.95 in the last five years.
