Artifice
One vote for no standout album yet this year. None of the stuff listed is offensive, but I have yet to have any of it stay in my CD player/iPod playlist for more than a week. Maybe it's because I am busy or distracted, but I usually find time for music I love. Lotta likes this year, but no 2nd or 3rd dates. Still waiting to have my hair blown back. hardwood floor
weird how almost everybody on this board is so in love with the same stuff - bon iver, raconteurs, fleet foxes, dr. dog, my morning jacket, drive by truckers ... i can't stand any of those and the REM and vampire weekend records? seriously? the best things i've heard so far in 2008 are the british sea power, the alejandro, albert hammond and matt keating's quixotic, which is at the top of the heap

Gobias Industries
see, i'll agree with you on the FF stuff and on looking backwards for good music, but on the MMJ thing, i'll have to partially and respectfully disagree. MMJ is a great band, but Evil Urges is a bit shite, innit? -justin Well, the reason why I've been going backwards is because I never knew any of the stuff. Stuff like old Beatles, Stones, Band, etc., I had never heard before, so I've been spending the majority of my time going back and covering that stuff before coming back to "now" stuff, so to speak. I recognize MMJ is a good band, they just have never jive'd well with me. Tennessee Fire was probably the closest I've gotten to liking them, and even then all that reverb was seriously tearing me a new one. Evil Urges, regardless, is still terribly bad.
