For Venus and Mars the single is Letting Go. You order on line and pay for shipping, 4.25 for one. As to the actual disc Venus and Mars sounds decent. Have not heard it in 35 years or so but still remember most of the lyrics, which means I listened to it too much back then. Definately sounds like a 70's record. Amongst the talking heads throughout the show was Richard Skinner, an ex Radio 1 DJ and also sort of their specialist news reporter on a twice daily (as I remember) slot called "Newsbeat". He said he woke up at 4am and heard of the shooting on the BBC World Service. He drove straight to the Newsbeat office and on arrival remembered that he had McCartneys's home phone number in his little black book. After dithering the pros and cons he decided to call and someone (not Macca) answered and he passed on the news, which they had not heard. He told them he would very much like to hear a comment from Macca if he felt like calling back to speak to him, but understood it might not be the right time. Well, he stated thata bit alter Macca did ring and although he refused to go on air, they spoke for a prolonged time about Lennon and was very upset. Then the interesting bit - Skinner says that Macca told him that he had been scheduled to meet Lennon that month to do some recordings and writing. But they had problems with booking a studio, so had rearranged to do it in January. Wow, if not the the problem with the studio booking, then Lennon would not have even been in New York at that time, and I never knew they were that close to getting back together in some form. I'd also put Magical Mystery Tour above Rubber Soul..Let It Be would be the only post Rubber Soul release that I'd rank lower. This is totally what I was referring to with my original post - I wouldn't say Rubber Soul is my favorite, or the best Beatles album. Not sure if I'm going to shell out $400 for this.Made the same purchase, very happy I did. Most likely will pass as well. I suddenly see in my phone book I've got Paul McCartney's home telephone number. I thought about it, because it was kind of a nerve wracking irresponsible thing to do but I did phone the number and somebody did answer the phone.I asked if they knew about John, and they didn't. And so I passed it on and asked could Paul phone back to Newsbeat because we would value a comment but appreciate that he may not be able to.Suddenly one of the (office) girls came through and said "Richard! Paul McCartney on the phone. So I went to the back office, the editor's office and shut the door and had a long conversation with Paul who wouldn't go on air. He was so upset and we talked about John and we talked about plans that, he tells me in the phone call, he and John had to get together and try and write music again together. That would have been happening that December. But the studio they wanted to use was booked out. They didn't get together and were hoping to get together in the New Year.
