d. boony
I know Tommy joined Wilco last time around, but it's really hard for to imagine the 'Mats playing Solid Sound. They've been getting headline rates at big festivals the past couple summers, which I would think is outside of the SSF talent budget. And I'm also just not sure they're a good fit. On the other hand, wow - that would be a GREAT lineup. Tweedy and Westerberg doing an old 'Mats song? yousers.
rhino4evr
I woudln't say that Solid Sound is beneath The Replacements at all, and honestly I think the average Wilco fan is also a Replacements fan. They are a great fit for the festival. I dont' really think its about the money to Paul and the gang. If they wanted to play the fest they would. Considering Tommy showed up for the last Solid Sound, there is an obvious seed that's been planted. Since I'm not going to SS this year, I am actually hoping they aren't playing, as the thought of Jeff and Paul singing a song together is way too much for me to handle. At least I'll have Roadcase...sigh. They haven't announced any dates in the "south" yet, so I'm hoping that they still come down here. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Mr. Heartbreak
So if everybody gets their wishes, we will have Television, The Replacements, Beck, Joe Jackson, Sufjan Stevens, New Pornographers, Richard Thompson, St. Vincent, Andrew Bird, Lucius, Califone, Calexico, Yo La Tengo, Donna the Buffalo, Real Estate, Cibo Matto, Jim Campilongo Trio, William Tyler, Joe Pug, Ryley Walker, Gregory Alan Isakov, Blitzen Trapper, Sharon Van Etten, and the Punch Brothers. Did I leave anyone out? Can we get David Byrne and St. Vincent? Maybe just pick one? Take a deep breath, everybody. Lower your expectations.... Edit: Oh, crap, I forgot My Morning Jacket. How could I forget them?
theashtraysays
Good list! I guess it's settled then.

The Inside of Outside
I'd be surprised if The Replacements play SS4, too. The fan bases are a good match, but they seem to be a bigger act than SS has gotten in the past. I think the same of MMJ. Levon Helm, MMW, Mavis, Yo La Tengo - that is about as big as it has been for other acts at past Solid Sounds, and that ain't all that big.

But I'm not getting my hopes up.They are definitely a good match in terms of overlapping fan bases, and I'd be thrilled (as a member of that overlapping fan base....). But Westerberg hasn't been shy in admitting that this reunion is about the money. I'm sure he enjoys it as well but its origin is financial - they were offered headliner money at events like Riotfest, Coachella etc... Which is obviously a bigger payday than SS. But either way, it would be head-exploding amazing if somehow Jeff etal recruited them.

d. boony
umm, what? I think there's a fly in the SolidSound Web Ointment. Or they are in the midst of updating. Or they are bringing back the exact same lineup: http://solidsoundfestival.com/lineup/ My guess is that they are currently updating, meaning the lineup should be here soon! rhino4evr
Aren't you in South Florida? Orlando isn't an option for you? You gotta get yer Wilco on!I was actually referring to the Replacements playing the South. I already have tickets to see Wilco in St. Augustine. It was Wilcos' FL tour that made me give up the dream..lol. I was able to find a bed and breakfast ON THE BEACH..for a 1/4 of the price of crappy Solid Sound hotel. Just sayin...those overpriced hotel rooms and the air travel were a financial hurdle I couldn't handle this year. Oh well...
knotgreen
Pretty awesome lineup of comedians in 2010. Wish I caught some of that. I'd also like to add Langhorne Slim to my wish list.

bböp
Paul McCartney! lol...Well, apparently Sir Paul is playing a surprise Valentine's Day show at Irving Plaza in NYC tonight. There was a one-ticket limit, from what I saw, which is kinda hilarious. So it's not totally impossible, though I'd put the odds at like .000000000000001 percent. It was on Brooklyn Vegan, albeit way too late to benefit anyone apparently. Anybody here win the lottery and score a ticket?
rhino4evr
After hearing Sir Paul perform on SNL 40 last night, I am recanting my request. Think it's time for retirement.
