One more Wilco show.

Wilco — 22 November 2019, St. Paul, MN (Palace Theatre) [Night 1 of 3]
TCP replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
I want to say that was the best Wilco show I've seen but I'm definitely guilty of saying that immediately after every Wilco show I go to. Unless the band is consistently just slightly one upping themselves night after night?! Not much to report that bbop didn't. The band seemed to be in great spirits and really enjoying themselves. Did anyone notice the looks Pat and Mike were giving each other during Theologians? One of them might have messed up (though it all sounded great to me) because there was definitely some "wait, what did you just do?" looks followed by some laughs. Low's opening s -
Wheeeeellllco!!!!

Oh great suggestion! We're looking at arriving on the day of their second show, could time out perfectly.
-
Flights to Portland aren't that bad, so I bit the bullet and got tickets for both nights.
-
Scored front row centre tickets for Winnipeg. Huzzah!!!

I might be a bit of a hoser sometimes. They both spent 2019 touring for their 2018 records, so I feel like we won't get solo albums from them til 2021, but maybe if we're lucky we'll get another collab album. Kurt made a joke recently on Janet Weiss' Instagram about his "side project" so maybe he was hinting at activity. Or maybe I'm grasping at straws.

Andy Shauf and Destroyer are the most anticipated for stuff that's been announced already. Though I suspect we could see new albums from: The War On Drugs Benjamin Booker Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile Father John Misty Rolling Blackouts CF Sufjan Stevens (2005: Illinois, 2010: The Age of Adz, 2015: Carrie & Lowell, 2020: ???) King Tuff Jason Isbell Waxahatchee Wilco and of course... Ty Segall Long shots but I'm a dreamer: Bob Dylan Sloan

Wilco — 9 November 2019, Cincinnati OH (Taft Theater)

Great review Vince! Sounds like a good show. I'm glad everyone who wanted to stand got to stand. -
Bad pressings existed in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. A lot of US pressings, especially all the Columbia club records, are bad. That's why German and Japanese pressings were so sought after back in the day. Conversely, a lot of pressings today are great. It's like the old black vs colour debate, you're going to find good and bad examples for both. I have the pink copy of Ode to Joy and it sounds great on my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. In fact, the only bad Wilco pressing I ever got was the original orange copy Kung Fu shipped, but they repressed it with the far superior second pressing.

Was there snow on the ground? Because don't forget this ski resort in Newfoundland in the 90s. http://youtu.be/6e7f-2hBFm8

I guess the owl is a recurring motif in Wilco art... but so are eagles. Maybe Jeff is a fan of Twin Peaks. "The owls are not what they seem."

Nice. I read somewhere he's playing guitar again? Or at least he did in Kansas recently.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. I listened to the CD and then listened to the track-by-track breakdown and was really confused because I didn't remember any piano.

I'm pretty relieved with last night's election results. Nice to see Canada full out reject white nationalism, though I guess the conservatives gained a slight increase in power and they're not much better. The NDP swapped my riding from red to orange, so it felt nice to actually help elect a socialist. I'm proud of my country for staying reasonable even if Justin Trudeau isn't the most compelling leader anymore.

I was a little disappointed it was Navy Blues and not One Chord To Another or Between The Bridges, which I think are stronger albums. But the songs sounded great live, that album really does hold up. There's a few really good songs on that album like Stand By Me, Yeah that you would never otherwise hear. After they did Navy Blues they left the stage for about 20 minutes and then came back and did maybe 15-20 songs from throughout their career, with every album from Twice Removed to 12 represented (sorry Smeared). The crowd was really into it and sang along to every song, even the non-singles a

Ok I have refreshed my memory. I don't know what how much I can say since I don't know the person who won personally, but I can confirm someone definitely got the confirmation e-mail from Kung Fu a few days before the record came out.

I think I heard a few weeks ago a winner was already contacted

Joanna Newsom again! My wife is to Joanna as we are to Wilco.

I'm not sure if I was even being completely serious, but maybe it is an idea worth considering?? I just wouldn't want anyone to feel excluded. Also not sure how the mod team here feels about us discussing other Wilco discussion groups. EDIT: New page, so I should probably get things back on track with some OTJ stuff. Here's a cool interview from John on the recording process.
