  1. That says something about a person. Makes me like Gary Carter a little bit more.
  2. This whole thread had me laughing so hard my side hurts..... So am I to understand that Martha Stewart has clean boobs, too?
  3. I was there, and it was my first Wilco show as well. Also still my favorite show of the 15 or so Wilco shows I have seen. Also in my top ten of some 250 or so shows in total, top three even. I knew walking out of there that night that this band was different, that they had something special going. They rocked it so hard that night. I remember turning to my friends several times during the show and seeing big, sh#@-eating grins on their faces. It was our first Wilco show; all of us are still fans. How could we not be? The run of Hotel Arizona, Monday, and Kingpin was a highlight, as was the
  4. I've been thinking there might be a southeast swing this spring for Wilco. Wonder if they will do a three week swing through there in May. With the 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks on tour followed by about the same time off the road that they have favored recently, that could mean an early April jaunt somewhere, followed by a mid-May SE US stretch. But then there are the festival dates in late May/early June overseas that might suggest otherwise. With a return to MassMOCA sometime this summer for a small benefit show still to be scheduled, I am very, very hopeful for a NE leg come July or so. One can h
  5. Loved it. Have to admit I wasn't super jazzed about the set list ahead of time - Bull Black Nova, some of the mellower songs off of the TWL - it had me wondering if a different set might be better. I was way in the wrong. Black Moon and Open Mind were great to hear, and it was the best version of BBN I've heard yet. War on War was a blast, as was Born Alone. I loved being able to see all of the things that go into making the sounds on a song like Poor Places - stuff you can't necessarily see when you are standing 10 heads back at a show. Far, Far Away was a treat, and the closer gave me goose
  6. I agree that the Foo Fighters are not quite mainstream enough for the Super Bowl. Looking at the top concert tours from the past few years, the Eagles definitely look like a lock for the Super Bowl in the next couple of years. I have never heard a Brad Paisley song, to my knowledge at least, but the guy rakes it in year after year, and he would play well to the heartland. Carrie Underwood seems like another country star who might appeal to a wide enough audience. And I can't believe John Cougar Mellonhead is not doing it this year from Indy. Next time it is in Indianapolis, it seems like he wo
  7. I know it wasn't supposed to, this being a thread about all time sad songs, but this made me laugh out loud! Not that it is not a sad song, but the poor pony part is a crackup to me!
  8. Sounds like you might want to check out a Jeff solo show. You'll get the older and quieter material (some newer stuff, too). You won't likely get Venus, though. But it won't cost you three times the ticket price.
  9. I love this song, too! The first time I saw Wilco, this song brought down the house. Given how very very infrequently Wilco plays Uncle Tupelo tunes these days, I have my doubts about ever hearing this again at a Wilco show. Too many great Wilco songs to choose from to go back to Uncle Tupelo's catalogue, I guess. For bona-fide rawk songs, we may have to be content with AM and Being There songs on the setlists now. And now that I think about it, I am content with that.
  10. I think this is a great setlist. She's A Jar, Via Chicago, Kamera, Side with the Seeds, Misunderstood, Pot Kettle Black, Red Eyed-->I Got You. Wilco often puts together a good mix of standards and a few deeper cuts; this setlist happens to have a mix that really appeals to me.
  11. I hope you get the answers to your questions. Congratulations on winning the contest!
  12. Reading the above interviews reminds me of another reason I like the band - they are articulate. In their print interviews, they come off as pretty darn smart (or smaht as folks say here in Maine).
  13. I thought the same thing! When I look now, it is like one of those pictures where you can see two things depending on how you look at it. And I still see the Jack rabbit first.
  14. Return to teaching special education after two years as a school administrator. Spend more time with my parents, particularly my dad, who is a year plus into Alzheimers. Play more street hockey with my kids.
  15. Hilarious! Required viewing for fans who love Jeff's banter.
  16. That pretty much says it all. Jealous doesn't get to the half of it. After so long away from Chicago, I am glad the folks there got this setlist. And someone mentioned that the energy went up and down, like with playing I Got You early in the show. I remember that being fairly common before AGiB or so. Love a few old rockers sprinkled throughout the show. Pop a Monday in there halfway through, and it's a time warp to ten years ago.
  17. I have been a Red Sox fan for 37 years. For me, Bobby Valentine is very, very hard to like. I have a hard time respecting an organization that would hire him because I have so little respect for him. I am actively looking for a team to support for the next few years (months?) while he is the Red Sox manager. Maybe the Pirates? Indians? Nationals?
  18. I love Neil Young's music. I also think of him more than anyone else in terms of influence on Wilco's sound. I know others may hear other, stronger influences on Wilco's sound, but for me, it is Neil.
  19. I started laughing a few minutes ago, reading this, and I am still chuckling. I guess it is one way to look forward to Sunday.
