gogo
Currently in my bag for streetcar reading: And on hold for vacation reading next week: (Again! To keep the other niece company, and because she wants to see the show.) (Again! But this one is just for me. ) This one is a sequel/companion to Cane River, which I read last year for San Francisco's One City One Book program. I've found some great books through that. Also in the pipeline, but I can't be bothered dealing with the links: Ask the Dust, John Fante Then We Came To the End, Joshua Ferris Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, James Agee and Walker Evans What It Is, Lynda Barry and for when I finally decide to get off my ass and get out into the yard Golden Gate Gardening, Pam Peirce
EL the Famous
'The New Frontier (Absolute Edition)'...quite possibly the most beautiful looking book (inside and out) and amazingl piece of comic book work i've ever read/owned. AND 'Cubs Forever: Memories from the Men Who Lived Them' Cubs Forever celebrates the 60-year romance between the team, the superstation, and the fans. It brings to life some of the great games and moments in the team's history, such as Ernie Banks 500th home run, the first night game at Wrigley Field, the 23-22 slugfest, and four no-hitters. Add in stories from the men who work behind the scenes at Wrigley and WGN, plus interviews with the team's many stars over this six-decade period, and you have a baseball bonanza for fans of all ages. Includes the DVD of the special they ran on WGN a while back. Both the team and the station were a huge part of my life growing up, so it's a really fun read. Both were Father's Day gifts...my kids/wife rule.
austrya
I'll have to put Red River on my wish list. I'm currently reading: I love Michael Pollan I'm also currently re-reading this set: It's the complete set of the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Only mine are all blue and from when I was a kid.

Three dollars and 63 cents
I was at Sam's Club today and was pleasantly surprised by their book selection. I could've bought quite a few more, but settled on these two: I started the Obama book earlier this evening and am enjoying his writing style.

Moe_Syzlak
Has anyone read Michael Mandlebaum's "Democracy's Good Name: The Rise and Risks of the World's Most Popular Form of Government"? Mandlebaum was on Charlie Rose last night (after a good segment on the upcoming doc Gonzo) and the interview really piqued my interest.

kidsmoke
I loved this! Heartbreaking though. Don't neglect reading all the end notes, as they add so much to the story (but don't read them in advance.) Her writing is brilliant. I've just finished a wonderful, wonderful book: It's beautiful and the characters are believable. Their story comes to life in Sach's capable hands, and the plot is compelling enough that it's a hard book to put down. She reaches between two cultures, American and Vietnamese, as two women's lives intertwine. This story is going to stay with me! Highly recommended.
