Vacant Horizon
Too tough to do this. But let me just say that I think Blood on the Tracks is the perfect record (especially when compiled with the alternate New York version). This record really was a paradigm-shifter for me when I first heard it.Happy B-Day, Bob. Thanks for BotT. i can't get past some of the whining on this album. help! ironically, tangled up in blue and buckets of rain are probably my two favorite dylan tunes. calvino
I think I have to agree with anthonyc007, Blood on the Tracks is my favorite of Dylan's, followed by John Wesley Harding. Of course, my favorites change weekly.

Magnetized
I'm a little late to the party, but yes indeed, Happy Birthday to Bob! I work part time in a cool little video store and the in-store entertainment will be all Zimmerman, all night tonight. Maybe start off with Don't Look Back, then the Unplugged DVD, and finish off with something sure to piss everyone off. The possibilities are endless--Masked and Anonymous? Renaldo and Clara? Nah, I'll probably just do I'm Not There or the Scorsese documentary. Anyway, a true cause for celebration. Hard to believe it's been 14 years since the illness that caused him to say "I was so sick, my mind just blanked out…I thought I was going to meet Elvis".

brianjeremy
So I have a Dylan-related question for the great minds here: Which of his "lesser lauded" albums should I purchase. Which album is a hidden gem that I should hunt down? I've been in a big Dylan kick lately but I am not to familiar with his other albums that aren't quite as popular as his most highly regarded albums. I have the typical Bob Dylan albums: his first album through Desire(minus his s/t and self-portrait), Oh Mercy, Slow Train, Time out Of Mind, Love and Theft, Modern Times and a few of the bootleg series...I just want to pick up more but have no clue where to start... mjpuczko
In addition to A-Man's suggestions: Empire BurlesqueWorld Gone Wrong (all solo acoustic cover songs) Definitely the last four mentioned. I love empire and world gone wrong. The latter is an amazing album.
Mr. Heartbreak
You mentioned "a few" of the bootleg series without specifying which ones. If you don't already have Live, 1966: The Royal Albert Hall Concert, that one's essential to me. Some of my all-time favorite versions of some of my all-time favorite Dylan songs. I would also put in a word for Good As I Been To You, which doesn't get talked about too much. Of course, it's all covers and folk songs (apparently it was the part 1 to World Gone Wrong's part 2), but it's also his "first entirely solo, acoustic album since Another Side of Bob Dylan in 1964" (so says wikipedia). brianjeremy
I own some of the Bootleg series, but "have" the others on mp3s. They are something that I'll pick up if I find them used and for a reasonable/cheap price. Of the top of my head, I know I have 1-3 and the last 2...Maybe some more...I dunno. I see the LPs for Empire and Infidels quite a bit...I even almost picked up a decent lp of Saved the other day for $4.
Moss
Infidels is one of my absolute favorite Dylan albums. your a man of the people you can walk on the cloudsmanipulator of crowds your a dream twister I love how those lines roll off the tongue. I think that song was inspired by Ronald Reagan from what I remember?
froggie
Under The Red Sky!.. someone has to stick up for it. all star cast from Elton john, Slash, David Crosby and George Harrison. Dylan fans either love it or hate it... i'm in the 'love it' crowd. here's the complete personell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Red_Sky#Personnel
Wild Frank
Definitely the last four mentioned. I love empire and world gone wrong. The latter is an amazing album.Another shout out for 'World Gone Wrong'. A Great Record. My favourite is the live album: 'Hard Rain'. It is a really raw and punkish record and has some great versions of the 'Blood on the Tracks' songs. Re: 'Infidels', and I'm sure this has been mentioned many times before, but you should make your own alternative version of Infidels by taking the great songs Bob decided to leave off that album (Blind Willie, Foot of Pride etc) and remove the one or two clunkers. He appears right after a cartoon joker during the chorus after the Only a matter of time 'til night comes steppin' in line.

Analogman
If I ever see Jeff again, I may ask him why he chose that song. I love the album John Wesley Harding, but that last two songs (Down Along the Cove and I'll Be Your Baby Tonight) on that album I could do without.
