From Nels' facebook: We regret to share that Lovers vinyl has been further delayed. We’re told the additional delay time will be an additional 4-6 weeks. We share in your frustration, and assure you we are doing everything we can to speed the manufacturing process. A note from Nels: Vinyl. Everybody is clamoring for it, and really, "Lovers" is a true vinyl-type of release. But the problems of vinyl are many, and quality is paramount and difficult to achieve. This, along with the odd and often frustrating machinations of "business", is further delaying your copy of "Lovers" on double vinyl. W

Wilco — 31 August 2016, Boise, ID (Morrison Center for the Performing Arts)
nalafej replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
What a difference a day makes! Is that the venue's backdrop or Wilco's new set? -
Had to pull out the most interesting quote to me and put it here: "a lot of Star Wars and a considerable amount of this new record, a lot of the guitar work that you hear is Jeff, not me, that’s prominent" Do you think he feels silly calling it Schmilco so he just calls it the new record?

Wilco - 30 August 2016, Salt Lake City, UT (Red Butte Garden)

No problem on the reporting. I realized I needed to step it up since the birthday boy wasn't there. I live in Chicago. Slowly catching the band in all 50 states. I'm up to 31 with last night. First time catching them in UT. I did MT/ID last summer which you may be thinking of. That dreadful setup in Sandpoint, ID... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I was tempted to film it but decided to live in the moment. They did a good job with it. Nels' part really comes to life live. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Right. There was no change. May be a moot point given the upcoming shift to indoor venues, but Jeff's cabinet blocks your view of Mikael if you stand on Pat's side and blocks your view of Glenn if you stand on Nels' side. Kinda annoying. I had the former experience in MN 11 days ago and the latter last night. I wonder if the band even realizes this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Great show to start the tour. It appears that they are going to ease themselves into this whole Schmilco setup that they talked about in COS. Something to Lose got its live debut. Glenn was still sporting the Stars Wars kick drum and EKG was the introduction music. A nice touch that Pure Imagination was played over the house PA after the lights went up. More... You haven't been to the backstreets website. They are Bruce fanatics and do a great job covering all the news and live reviews related to him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The National played the same song for six hours straight. I bet that is their record! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bummer. Wilco used Pure Imagination as intro music during the YHF tour, right?
-
That was a nice read. Is it a cliche yet that the solo work all do allows Wilco to be stronger? Jeff swears a lot in the article! Is his on Wilco cuss within lyrics on "Company"?

Axl's GN'R tour ended last week and last night he was back on stage with AC/DC. They played (a sloppy) Live Wire for the first time since 1982. What a year for Axl.

Spencer is a good drummer maybe even great but Glenn is a genius. I thought it was interesting hearing on Song Exploder how Magnetized was recorded with Glenn replacing Spencer's parts.

3.5 Stars in Rolling Stone (out of 5). Can't find it online. Highlights: Normal American Kids is a "classic" "occasionally verges on pleasant blandness" "Spencer plays drums on it"

Which there will be two of...white and pink which I could have accessed (or still can if I want to buy a second copy). Not sure this orange version was worth it for me.

First Nels' vinyl is delayed and now this one. Bummer, but not a huge deal. I wonder what the story is.

Wilco listed 6th on COS's "25 Best Rock Acts with Unique Setlists

That is a pretty amazing story! How did you land that gig? -
Yes...until they released AGIB I thought it was laugh and I thought THAT was a great lyric too (they played the song a few times before the album was released and I played those shows on heavy repeat).
-
They had three different posters for the run in 2000. Of course....that was 16 years ago.

I'm impressed by the shows people are listening. Lots of great taste. Lots of classic rock. This is impossible so I'm just taking a crack at it and limit Wilco to 1 of the shows: Wilco Vic Theater Kicking TV shows (all), but the best was the penultimate Guns N' Roses 1/1/01 Vegas House of Blues (Axl's first show since 1993) Tom Petty - Vic Theater 2003 Green Day - Vic Theater. Days before American Idiot release. Played the album straight through. 2004 Blind Melon at St Andrews Halls on Soup tour Black Crowes at The Silo in Reading, PA on my 21st birthday (1999) White Stripes/Brenden Benson

Minnesota Star Tribune article: http://www.startribune.com/wilco-teases-new-album-ahead-of-minneapolis-riverfront-concert/390588461/ highlights: "Schmilco” is decidedly mellow and semi-acoustic, with not one song longer than four minutes. The tracks on “Schmilco,” he said, “were a lot of songs that Jeff had pretty well formed on his own, with some input here and there from Glenn [Kotche, drummer], but the rest of us only kind of came in at the end to do our thing. There are a few tracks we did as a full ensemble, but not nearly as much as on ‘Star Wars’ or most of our other records. It w

The band goes through phases. I think SBS was collaborative, but to an extreme. Glenn has implied in the past that it wasn't a fun project for him because creating the songs by committee meant that he had to play very basic parts on many of the songs to keep everybody happy. I personally don't need the creative/recording process to be in any particular form, but it is interesting to hear about it.

Wilco — 17 August 2016, St. Louis, MO (Fabulous Fox Theatre)
nalafej replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
It's hard to argue with this. I mean, there was a time not too long ago where they didn't repeat songs over two nights in the same city. They repeated a lot of songs within the same day in St. Louis yesterday! -
Glenn: “Whereas the ‘Schmilco’ stuff, I might use more brushes, more nuance. Some of my jazz drumming past might come out.” Kotche said that, to some degree, he missed the experience of having all six Wilco members together in the studio working on songs. http://host.madison.com/ct/entertainment/music/wilco-s-heavy-metal-drummer-glenn-kotche-can-play-quietly/article_2e59b867-b35a-5a2c-9b2c-ca000741561d.html
