  1. Minnesota Star Tribune article: http://www.startribune.com/wilco-teases-new-album-ahead-of-minneapolis-riverfront-concert/390588461/ highlights: "Schmilco” is decidedly mellow and semi-acoustic, with not one song longer than four minutes. The tracks on “Schmilco,” he said, “were a lot of songs that Jeff had pretty well formed on his own, with some input here and there from Glenn [Kotche, drummer], but the rest of us only kind of came in at the end to do our thing. There are a few tracks we did as a full ensemble, but not nearly as much as on ‘Star Wars’ or most of our other records. It w
  2. The band goes through phases. I think SBS was collaborative, but to an extreme. Glenn has implied in the past that it wasn't a fun project for him because creating the songs by committee meant that he had to play very basic parts on many of the songs to keep everybody happy. I personally don't need the creative/recording process to be in any particular form, but it is interesting to hear about it.
  3. It's hard to argue with this. I mean, there was a time not too long ago where they didn't repeat songs over two nights in the same city. They repeated a lot of songs within the same day in St. Louis yesterday!
  4. Glenn: “Whereas the ‘Schmilco’ stuff, I might use more brushes, more nuance. Some of my jazz drumming past might come out.” Kotche said that, to some degree, he missed the experience of having all six Wilco members together in the studio working on songs. http://host.madison.com/ct/entertainment/music/wilco-s-heavy-metal-drummer-glenn-kotche-can-play-quietly/article_2e59b867-b35a-5a2c-9b2c-ca000741561d.html
  5. The Current will live broadcast Wilco's set at Hall's Island on-air and online. http://www.thecurrent.org/events/2016/8/20/1513/wilco-and-kurt-vile?WT.mc_id=02ff3195c0f2aa4177b9b1a1f3c4afaa
  6. Except for the Schmilco twofer in there.
  7. Has anybody hear of this being done before? I have to admit that I don't really get it. Are people just going to stand around the record store or wander around while the music is played? I can't think of a time where I've been standing up concentrating on music. I'm usually either seat (car seat, couch) or out getting exercise/commuting. What will these listening events be like? Is there a host?
  8. Wednesday at Euclid Records. In-Store. "This Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 3pm, Wilco stops by Euclid Records (Jeff’s former employer) in St. Louis for an in-store performance and signing before their show at The Fabulous Fox. First 150 to preorder "Schmilco" at Euclid will receive a guaranteed-entry wristband." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Any chance you can post the entire article? Looks like one as to create a user ID to access and I don't want to do that...
  10. Didn't want to start a new thread so I'll post in this ancient one. Leroy Bach is the producer on the new album by Ryley Walker titled Golden Sings that Have been Sung. I wasn't aware he was in the producer game. Good for him. Greg Kott mentioned his production and seemed to give the album a positive review in the Chicago Trib today. A little more I found on Ryley's bandcamp site: Ryley had been a long-time admirer of sometime Wilco multi-instrumentalist LeRoy Bach. Back in 2009, still in his teens, he had frequented the improv nights hosted by Bach at a restaurant/gallery space called W
  11. Whitney has been getting praise from Jeff and John recently. They'd be good.
  12. The shows leading up to the Chicago show were promoted as Star Wars tour ("This tour supports of the release of the acclaimed Chicago sextet's Grammy nominated, Star Wars" their typo not mine) so we shouldn't be surprised if they continue to play a generous portion of those songs during those shows. Critics have the album. Steven Hyden has tweeted about it "really good" "a cross of Star Wars and the acoustic songs on The Whole Love" "spare & gutted, feels like a solo-is LP"
  13. I hope A, think B and would be disappointed with C. There hasn't been much promotion for Schmilco! yet. I haven't seen a single interview. No promotion performances are lined up that we know of. It is an interesting approach.
  14. One of the better Ryan interviews I've seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trOE6fVLPPI
  15. His head looks photoshopped onto the body in this one and I bet he wishes he wore a longer shirt. Cool item.
  16. The buzz might be gone in a few months, but will our perception of the music really change that fast? I think if you like it today you will like it for at least a few years.
  17. From Nels' Facebook page: "Dear world - It has come to my attention that, owing to a manufacturing snafu in Santa's summer jazz workshop, the physical release of my forthcoming double album called "Lovers" will be delayed - CD out on Aug. 19 and vinyl out on Sept. 2. >SIGH There will be a small heap of compact disc versions for sale and signing at the Newport Jazz Festival-NJF, where we will unveil several of these pieces on Sunday morning. For those of you not attending the festival, please be understanding and enjoy the full album digitally on Aug. 5 plus the songs released in advanc
  18. You and Beltmann are thinking the same way it seems
  19. Wolf Alice tonight. Love their album so I'm hoping they translate it well.
  20. Yes, I would agree schm is doomed for the bottom of your list given its current chronological order.
  21. Arcs were good last night. I liked the two drummer setup and having a mariachi band help out on a few tunes. I was surprised by how much this was the Dan Auerbach show - thought it would be more band like - but it worked. totally worked. Also, I walked into the venue right behind one Mr. Glenn Kotche.
  22. Good to know. Should be enjoyable.
  23. The Arcs. Not really sure what to expect.
  24. Great book. Hope you like it. I didn't check out the tv adaptation...
  25. 30M = 30 million?? I heard it was a good show even if not sold very well.
