worldrecordplayer
Unless you're shipping international, I'd look into that shipping cost. Someone got into a conversation with Wilco/Kung Fu on a Facebook thread yesterday because they were shipping domestically and were paying somewhere around that amount (or greater) for an LP. Kung Fu took note and said it clearly was a mistake and resolved the issue. Thanks for the heads up Mr. Charlie. I (only) paid $5.65 for shipping/handling. I chose the least expensive option. choo-choo-charlie
Oops, I misread your post. Thought you were saying you paid $35+ for shipping [alone] rather than for everything. Carry on...
froggie
i was going to ask about this. on wilcoworld.net, the double cd version (20 songs) is only US$15.00....(dirt cheap for a new double cd). when i went to the check-out page for shipping to australia, the shipping rate is an extra $15.55 and that was the standard rate (6-8 weeks)... $43.80 priority, and $57.30 for express shipping. is that correct for a cd?. i assume it'll be a slim-line case like Being there. the shipping for that seems really steep, even for international shipping????? They're a somewhat mom and pop organization, it seems to me, and maybe they could work out something for you. Also, aren't you coming to Solid Sound next year? Maybe just get the download now and buy the physical product when you're in this half of the world.
froggie
no, i wont be at solid sound unless someone pays for me!. i shelled out $400 for bob dylan in august here! i'll see if i can contact kung fu tomorrow and 'work out a deal'

linclink
Reviving this thread, as we approach the last of the 8 per-release downloads for those who've pre-ordered. I'm betting it's leaked today & then, of course, it's availability will be Monday.I'm hoping it's something that isn't out there, but betting, more likely, that it'll be one of the ones we've already experienced in some manner (from live shows etc.).I'm hoping if it's one we know that it'll be "Honeycombed" ( or "Slow Love"), but I'm betting it'll be "World Away" (or "I'll Sing It")...though I kind of wish that it'd be one of the three tracks that remain total mysteries (the album's opening & closing tracks-"Please Don't Let Me Be So Misunderstood" & I'll Never Know" or the other unknown "Pigeons"). I'll add that 8th pre-release download track to this collection when it becomes availableCatching up & collecting everything into one convenient spot, here's most of what's out there.1) Studio Version of "I'll Sing It": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Ldk7CX-IM2) Studio Version of "Diamond Light Pt. 1": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUtsCjPaVsM3) Studio Version of "Summer Noon": Solo acoustic "Wait For Love": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or0DcEhWLEYLive On Jimmy Fallon "Summer Noon": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKIx6YAeFq04) Studio Version of "Low Key": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Flua5qzis5) Studio Version of "Fake Fur Coat": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgKD04FhEI86) Studio Version of "High As Hello": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJkOwvuI5sQLive NPR Field Recording of "High As Hello": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox_s09dEsQ0Live on Jimmy Fallon"High As Hello": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylmDv1NHWho7) Studio Version of "Wait For Love": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mNZbLuMm2A"Solo acoustic "Wait For Love": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or0DcEhWLEY8) Studio Version of "Flowering": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLz2_jmUzRc"Flowering" live from official Mt. Jam, Newport & Ryman/Nashville)6/9 Baltimore: http://www.sooutoftune.org/concerts/12056/11 Louisville: http://www.sooutoftune.org/concerts/12057/26 Freeport- WOW!This one contains a rare full band Tweedy cover deceased Chicago singer-songwriter Diane Izzo's great song "Love Like a Wire"- totally stunning performance of an equally stunning song!! This is my first encounter with it. In fact I just requested it online for the Ithaca show. If there are any more Tweedy shows that are planned as Roadcase releases I truly hope they consider putting this in the set list. They do a killer "Give Back The Keys To My Heart" & I adore Doug Sahm, but I'd love to see this song get some more exposure. Shoot I may end up learning it myself. Atticus
thanks for doing that, linclink. I have really enjoyed the studio versions. Much more than the live ones. Some of the instrumentation and production reminds me of AGIB--very accessible. Jeff does some great guitar and bass work. Subtle and always interesting tonally. Only track I don't seem to enjoy is High as Hello. Can't wait to hear the studio version of Nobody Dies Anymore. Haven't been able to get the guitar part of that tune out of my head. this is sweet and rich collection of songs. I doubt if there will be much if any crossover to Wilco sets. choo-choo-charlie
I have held out and not listened to any of the new material, except for a few listens of "I'll Sing It" and "Summer Noon" when they came out. For how personal this project is to Jeff and Spencer, I think I'll best appreciate it when I listen in the context of the full record with proper track sequencing, rather than the disjointed experience of listening to "singles" shared in advance of the official release. lost highway
I was on the opposite side and started digging into things/ did the preorder, and I kind of wish I didn't. The more my ipod playlist of the pre-order downloads grows the more the album is starting to really sound like "something" to me. It would have been better to have listened front to back all in one go next month.
linclink
I'm actually digging the live versions more myself, but...I do really appreciate the unique angle of the studio tracks as well. With so many of the songs appearing on the pretty readily available shows from Mt. Jam, Nashville/Ryman & Newport, there was no way I could resist not digging in. Especially since I was going to the Baltimore & D.C. shows & got the dozen songs from Mt. Jam for the road trip down there. At this point, I've gotten to know 17 of the 20 songs from the album, & I couldn't be more thrilled... of course 8 of them are studio tracks, with the 9th coming- presumably let out tomorrow & available for download on Monday... so I have a bit of a feel for the studio album as well. I am looking so forward to getting to experience the whole album right before the Ithaca show on the 24th!! And will have had a nice week to digest it before the Buffalo show on Oct. 1st as well. theashtraysays
Other than one live show in June, I'm waiting for the record. Lousy at diets, btw.
choo-choo-charlie
Also terrible at diets. Did the pre-order, just didn't bother with the downloads. I still don't think sampling tracks out of sequence/context would give me a "feel" for the record. Think of making a Wilco newbie a Being There sampler and only including The Lonely 1, Outtamind (Sesame Street version), What's the World Got in Store, Kingpin, Someone Else's Song, Why Would You Wanna Live, Red-Eyed and Blue, and Monday. I got on the Wilco train right around the time Kicking Television came out - which was one of my first purchases. I held out and didn't listen to SBS until the day the vinyl showed up on my doorstep. It was the first "new" Wilco album to me so I was pretty excited about the experience of hearing it for the first time. I sampled W(TA) quite a bit before it came out and only listened to The Whole Love once they streamed the full record.

I would agree, except for Why Would You Wanna Live.. That's really the only song on Being There that I don't like. That and maybe Dreamer in My Dreams, which has always seemed like "oops, didn't realize we left the record button on when we were goofing off.. Fuck it.. Let's put it on the record anyway!".. Sorry getting off topic here..

I think if I were giving someone a taste I'd give them the Red-Eyed > I Got You combo, the rockin' Outtasite, Hotel Arizona, Forget the Flowers, etc., basically the meat of side 1 and maybe Someday Soon. I think to a newbie's ears the deep cuts might not resonate as much...of course I could be totally off-base here. The examples I used are good songs, but I've had time to absorb them and appreciate them. Anyhoo - off topic. I am looking forward to hearing Sukierae in its entirety and to the discussion of the record that will take place here.

bböp
Surprised that we (or at least I) haven't heard from the Tweedy management folks about this yet. Or maybe we have and I missed it. Anyway, a cool incentive to get out to your local independent record shop for all you completists... http://modern-vinyl.com/2014/08/29/tweedy-7-includes-coupon-for-lp/

Madcap
Thanks for the heads up on that, picked the last copy up at Reckless. Not a colored vinyl so I'm guessing this was meant as an under the radar thing for some reason.
