  1. I am not surprised that the Tweedy shows have not sold out in markets they have already played in. I saw two Tweedy shows last summer and passed on a third three months later that was 20 minutes from my house. I did so because the two shows I saw were pretty much the same, and the third was going to be pretty much the same as well. So I had seen it already. With only one album under their belts, there is not a great deal of variety in the set lists. And the Tweedy songs are not barn burners in a live setting, so I can imagine folks might not be as inclined to go back for a second time. That sa
  2. Unfortunately, not anywhere near northern New England on this tour.
  3. I applaud Gornok's effort and dedication, but I am with Dick Ctionary on this.
  4. This is all part of the positive transformative impact that SS has had on the small rust belt town of North Adams, MA.
  5. But that is because you live in the cultural wasteland that is Florida. Seriously, I wonder why more bands don't schedule Florida shows in the dead of winter - Chicago and the like can be bone-chilling Dec-March. Oh, and everything seems like a 6 hour round trip in Florida.
  6. I'd be shocked if they do not play together again. Heck, I'd be surprised if they do not tour again within 5 years. The side projects just don't pay as well, and it would be human nature to miss the larger, adoring crowds they get as The Black Crows.
  7. I saw MMJ open for Wilco in Boston some 10 years ago. They were loud. They rocked. It was all ok. I like their early records, their later ones are ok. I can take them or leave them. If they play SS 2015, a Sunday closing set add some energy to the last day, which was lacking at SS3 (though I did enjoy Os Mutantes). The crowd on Sunday was thin. Heck, even SS2 had a sparser crowd for Sunday with the Levon Helm Band as the closer. MMJ on Friday or Saturday - no thanks. On Sunday - great.
  8. I agree with this. And because it is not a very exciting record, it is at #128 in the VV poll. Are there 127 better records from this past year? Doubtful. But will it be in a lot of people's top ten? Probably not. Five waltzes in twenty songs ---> #128 on the VV poll.
  9. How cool to be Spencer Tweedy - just turned 19, and he has played on records by Jeff Tweedy, Mavis Staples, and now Pops Staples. Love "Somebody Was Watching".
  10. Here is the set list from that show at the Beacon in 1999: 1. California Stars 2. I'm Always In Love 3. I Must Be High 4. How To Fight Loneliness 5. Hotel Arizona 6. Red-Eyed And Blue 7. I Got You (At The End Of The Century) 8. Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) 9. She's A Jar 10. A Shot In The Arm 11. Misunderstood 12. Hesitating Beauty 13. Christ For President 14. Forget The Flowers 15. Can't Stand It 16. Casino Queen 17. Outta Mind (Outta Sight) That's a beauty. I can see why Richard Thompson fans were unhappy, though, especially if they did not understand that it was
  11. At a minimum, they played together at Noblesville, Cincinnati, Duluth, Peoria, Chicago, Clarkston, and Toronto on that tour. I remember some pictures (tweets, maybe?) that indicated that Nels and Richard hit it off. Not surprised by that.
  12. I saw that, too. It was a repost of a picture of John Hodgman by the Solid Sound Festival facebook page with the line, "See you in June, sir." Other than Wilco, he is the first confirmed performer for SS 2015, I believe. Or at least he'll be there.
  13. That looks like a movie I want to see. The footage from the 60s and 70s is fascinating.
  14. Loved the footnotes. Read 'em all. Also loved that one character was an NFL punter.
  15. That is a tough year. I hope 2015 is as upbeat for you as this one was a downer. My Dad died in June, so I took my family over to my Mom's house tonight to celebrate the New Year (albeit several hours early). It is her first holiday season without my Dad since they met in 1954. I was blessed to be able to spend the evening with her. Now we are back at home, and my wife and I are going to finish watching The Grand Budapest Hotel, then ring in the New Year with our two younger children (the older two are spending the night with friends). Happy New Year, everyone!
  16. That is a cool story - not something you'd expect, given Mick's public image/persona. And Memory Motel is a fantastic, overlooked song of theirs.
  17. Any of the Evening With.... shows, from March 22 to April 11, 2010, are worth a listen for pre-Whole Love shows. If my memory serves me right, anything from Scranton (March 31st) to the end of the run in Pittsburg on April 11 are excellent. I love 1997 as well, many dates cited already up above.
  18. Just what you'd expect from The Replacements - the unexpected.
