people are leaving
Well, I successfully waited for the proper release and stayed away from this thread for awhile. And, wow. I am on my 3rd listen and this album is following my usual path to a favorite. I was lukewarm on the first listen, but then things started opening up and making sense on the second listen. And then, we achieved takeoff on the third. Also, I see what people mean about the production on the first track. I am going to sit with this for a lot longer before I make a judgment. Man, it's so nice when something in life actually meets your ridiculous expectations. I read somewhere a few weeks ago that after several iterations, they decided to use the original demos for both Terrible Love & Lemonworld.

u2roolz
Anyone have a ridiculous time trying to take out the package (that's what she said)?I sat in my car for 5 minutes before I was able to pull the cd case from the purple cover. Then I remembered that there was a poster that was probably causing all of this tightness.

Then I remembered that there was a poster that was probably causing all of this tightness. I've had the same problem. The last time I attempted to remove the case I thought I might have to resort to scissors. For now I'm just keeping the slip case off. They look kinda cool, but I've had this problem with at least one other CD in the past (Neon Bible).
solace
Looking For Astronauts is not a song I would call good. i don't like Val Jester either. had they replaced that song with 'Driver Surprise Me' that album would have been WAY better than it already is.

I'd call it a good song. Not great, but good. What is Driver, Surprise Me off of? YES!! Cool packaging though (despite the "tightness"). the cd was packed way tight, too. i thought i was going to break it.

faxman75
Love this band to death. I'm in Phoenix and i'll be driving to L.A. for night two of their weekend at The Wiltern. I saw them there last year as well. I'm also looking forward to their Sasquatch set as their Sasquatch 2008 set was one of the most incredible performances I have seen them give. I definitely have an obsession with them at this point. This Saturday night they are streaming a benefit from NY live on youtube though maybe someone has already mentioned it in this thread. Favorites from the new album. Conversation 16LondonSorrow Lemon World Brilliant album. I'm gay for all of Matt's writing.
marino13
Ok, "Runaway" just floors me! absolutely gorgeous! Album is really good. At first listens, doesn't quite hit me like Boxer did. but still really great stuff... Only on my second time through, but I think "Runaway" is my new "Start a War", beautiful. Wild Frank
I've just secured tickets for their show at the Manchester Academy (U.K) in November. The gig sold out in little under twenty minutes!!

Moss
National on Letterman In case anyone missed it. I didn't see Sean Lennon but I'm pretty sure Sufjan Stevens was doing some vocals.

Maggie
was sean lennon with them on letterman last night? sure as shit looked like him. I always think the drummer looks like he could be a member of the Lennon family. I was thinking of John, but I'm sure Sean would be a good comparison as well.
cooperissup3r
That performance is great. Matt's voice sounds really strong and deep.
Preferred B
I don't own the album (yet) and have never really listened to The National. But I caught the Letterman performance last night, and daaaaamn, that was something. Why are they playing Milwaukee the same weeknight the New Pornographers are in Madison?
