Today (well, yesterday now) my favorite sports team won the World Series. They've given me 40 summers of joy with a good number of heartaches also. But they're my team, they were my first love (along

Hadn't heard this in a while. Honk.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_KlckKFFc0

Heck yeah the better team won! Braves fan since 1975. And that means I have suffered through many awful seasons. 2021 began as a mediocre season and ended with a championship. Hell of a ride. GO BRAVE

So, a relative just sent my son a check for $30 for his birthday. Said progeny asked me to cash it for him; so I did.

And I got him...

FIFTEEN $2 BILLS!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

He was simultaneously amused, annoyed, and confused.

I'm so proud of myself!

The A.V. Club's decision to move to Kinja (whatever that means) has destroyed the site. Now it is difficult to navigate and the comments section is ruined. Cant they just leave well enough alone?

Noticed this too. Site is basically unusable now. going to have to find a new place for pop-culture news

I know the thread is titled today but I have to speak about yesterday. A big day for me...

1) My oldest started Kindergarden!!!

2) Attended an interview session at the aol building with Stereophonics and band I have enjoyed and liked for 15 years. Met Kelly and Richard Jones got pictures with them and participated in the Q and A

3) Saw Filthy Friends of which Peter Buck's is a member..After the show I spotted Michael Stipe in the crowd. I finally "met" him and spoke to him for about a minute which was beyond a thrill for me as R.E.M. has been my number 1 favorite since I was 9!! On top of that spoke with Peter Buck for a few minutes which is also always a thrill.

This date gets a gold star on the calendar of your life!

A parent's job includes occasionally annoying, confusing, or embarrassing our young. And hopefully amusing them sometimes, too. Good job!

I always remember the great story humor writer Dave Barry told of getting to borrow the weinermobile...the vehicle shaped like an Oscar Meyer hot dog....and using it to pick up his teen son from high school one day, calling son's name over the thing's p.a. (His boy leaped in, slammed the door and slumped down, and tersely commanded, "DRIVE. DRIVE!")

:lol

Me and my son stacked a load of wood last Saturday. I still have to split a heap of maple n pine but time for that seems scarce lately.

Since we are talking wood, I found out during our recent trip to CO that I don't care to burn Lodgepole pine. That is a greasy burning wood, nasty.

Spitty too, isn't it? Sparks popping?

A friend of mine posted this on FB and I think it's my new life goal:

Vonnegut: When things are going sweetly and peacefully, please pause a moment, and then say out loud, "If this isn't nice, what is?"

Stay in the moment.  Enjoy life.
